Hi folks,

I've been playing with my lowe alpine saracen backpack (120 ltr! :scared:) and am doing some more research on it.

In my search I found the following website with a nice thing on it - the loadlocker - which looks like it could be useful for us hammock guys and girls.

Seems like it's a thing that could serve ala the dutch clip (the same principle), only then with a more secure attachment on it.

The one shown is not suited for the purpose because it's too light, but a heavy duty one could be made.

it might be patented, don't know, but it looks like a nifty thing. Now I haven't used a dutch clip and probably won't use one, but to me this looks like an improved version. Maybe it isn't but then, I don't know the design considerations by Dutch.

what do you all think?

One of the member have designed something similar.... though the name escapes me at the moment....

the fu is powerful :)
that's cool, but the thing I'm pointing at is something else, it could function as a dutch clip I guess, the other thing is a webbing to sling connector.

That thing is not made for the forces put on a Dutch Clip. It'd have to be made of steel or much larger/thicker than what works for a simply pack strap.

I don't really see any improvement of that design over a Dutch Clip. I mean, they look cool, but do they do anything better? Probably holds the webbing a bit more securely in place when not under a load than the DCs. But, built-out strong enough for our needs, I bet that design would weigh a bunch.

Wanna have some fun? Run some translator programs over their Dutch (anybody else see the irony there...Dutch language for a Dutch Clip wanna be ) write-up. Google's made the most sense...mostly. :D

The load locker is designed to cover a backpack insurance. It is easy to operate (even with cold fingers or gloves or mittens) and a secure closed position. Further, this piece buckle clog with snow or ice.

don't think that will be strong enough (not with a margin of error anyway) metolius makes a very similar buckle.

brandon - what are you making reference too? i think it's the clips on the backpack. my elephant trunks support over a 1000lbs.

the clip i designed is for the tree strap to whoopie not to function the same as a dutch clip

I have been experimenting on the Traveler with BGs Elephant Trunks (ETs) at the end of my adjustable webbing (no Whoopies at all)...sorry, been a bit too distracted to pic and post the results BG. The beauty of this is with proper webbing end loop size one could disconnect the ETs from the hammock and run them through the loop. This would eliminate biners from the tree end of the set up. It also has the advantage of easilly removing my adjustable webbing from the hammock at take down to keep tree sap off my bed.

The only disadvantage I have seen is adjusting the webbing is a smidge more involved than the cinch buckle plates. BG is using them for a Marlin Spike replacement (see his pic below), I am using them to replace the cinch buckle plates.

yes, the metal backpack clip, the way it's open on the webbing side makes it look like it's not going to be strong enough, the DC is heavily reinforced in that area, the elephant clip (nice by the way) isn't open at the webbing

yes, that's the idea, I wouldn't use that clip, since it's made for backpack covers, but a thicker version could work

D
that's the idea, more security is better right.
Yes, I agree about the weight, as I said, I don't know the design considerations for a dutch clip, but weight probably is a factor.

Otoh, if you look at that clip as a dutch clip with an extra webbing security thing, then if you place the webbing security thing at a right angle (towards the hammock so to speak) it wouldn't have to be very thick as it it won't have the forces on it like it would in the design it is right now..

can an engineer chime in please:woot:
