I like reading thru hiker Trail Journals and especially those that are using hammocks. Often we learn of them right here on HF but often I simply come across them when checking the gear lists from various Journals. I think it would be both useful and fun if whenever we discover a thru hiker that's hammocking, we could post their journal info here at a specific location. I just signed Bat's journal and plan on following it....good luck Bat.

Anyone else think this would be a good idea?

Post them in this thread. We can sticky it if there's enough entries.

OK...I'll start with this one. It doesn't list a hammock in her gear list but she mentions it in her first Prep entry and later. She finished last year. I'd like this as a learning tool so in my opinion it doesn't really matter if the hikers are currently hiking or have completed their hikes. I just want to learn from their experiences on a long distance hike.

I only know her from a couple of posts at WB I saw, and the entries in her journal, but she seems like she will be fun to follow. She starts Sunday, and was talking about an underquilt at one point so I'm assuming she's hammocking. If she's here under a different name, that just shows how out of the loop I am now.

I start the PCT on April 20. :)
I'm taking my hammock, of course. My wife is hiking with me and will also have a hammock, but we may choose to sleep on the ground pretty often to "snuggle". ;)

Anyway, I have an online journal at postholer.com/hayduke

I'm keeping mine on my blog. Hard to make entries from the trail, the smart phone has some issues posting in my blog at times but I will be doing so at every stop along the way. Holed up in Hiawassee tonight, stormcrow and I started late on the 26th, got lost in the fog getting up to Springer. Stormcrow is traveling with me to Hot Springs.

You're starting before us!! I hope we catch up to you. Might not though, so I guess we'll see you at KO. I'll have some toggles for you if you want them.

I completed the AT just over a week ago, my hammock served very well. Only one near mishap, a tree (about 10 inch diameter) uprooted on me and in the morning the hammock was almost on the ground. The soil was very mossy and soft and it rained all night.
