View Full Version : 1.1 Dbl SwitchBack - Quick First Impressions
After hounding Darby to bring back the 1.1 dbl SB, I had to order one and go through the waiting process we all know and love. Well, it was worth the wait.
The 1.1 dbl SB is a Light Hiker on steroids. The extra 8" of length is immediately noticeable. For a wide shouldered guy there was no shoulder squeeze at all (I experienced some shoulder squeeze in the LH).
It appeares that the zipper is the same size as that on the LH.
The bug netting is vast but easily lifted up out of the way.
It is easy to lay on both right and left sides.
If you read my review of the LH (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28780) you can just add a +1 to everything I wrote there. As Adam stated, this is hammock nirvana. Thanks Darby (I'll have more to say about that guy later!)! Signing off from the hammock. Now for some quiet time.
Looks sweet. Darby is awesome to deal with. I'm likin' those SB hammocks!

Just ordered one today after speaking with Dale. Really looking forward to this! Thanks to Shane for the qrite-up and Dale for taking some time out of his busy day to shoot it with me.

You are more than welcome! I love talking to folks about hammocks and calling it "work".
Cheers, Dale
Enjoy it Shane! You've made me jealous :) That is the SB that I really wanted but was not in production when I got my 1.9 dbl. No complaints tough: I love my SB. I am 6'-1" and nearly 200# and I think that's a little too big for most folks in a LightHiker.
Shane, how do compare the switchback to your light hiker. I have a light hiker and think I might like to have the bigger hammock. I may just have to order one and wait for it and see how they compare. I am 6'-215 also. We are about the same size. thanks, dave
The only real difference in the lay was that I had some shoulder squeeze in the Light Hiker when I was not using the pull outs on both sides. Once I added that 2nd pull out on the right side of the Light Hiker(it's always the right side no matter which end you lay from:rolleyes:), the shoulder squeeze went away.
I had zero shoulder squeeze in the 1.1 Dbl SwitchBack even when I had not deployed the two stock pull outs. I have yet to lay in the 1.1 Dbl SB while using pull outs. Maybe after the Masters this evening:cool:.
Other than that, the lay is nearly identical. Very easy to lay on either my right or left side.

I just got my Switchback - 1.9 Double Layer about a month ago and got a chance to hang it on a hiking trip to Lynch's Woods Park in Newberry, SC. Its a little different since I also own a WBBB. But the ability to be able to pull the bug netting up on both sides and let the air flow through can be a plus. In the summer, the bug netting can get a little hot.
Here is my you tube video of the Switchback Hammock hang.

Have a few pictures of the hang.
