just got the thermawrap pants!!! there great! as good or better than expected!
i believe they have a little more loft than i expected. it`s still not a lot, but it not intended to be. maybe 3/8"? probably as thick or thicker than a heavy fleece, but much lighter & way more compact.
the zippers work great. they haven`t snagged a single time yet.
when the zippers are zipped shut, it just looks like a seam.
the XL pants weigh 11 & 3/4 ozs (12 & 1/4 ozs w/ the included stuff sack).
my L patagonia capilene bottoms weigh 7 & 1/2 ozs.
though i haven`t worn the new pants out yet, i suspect there`s no comparison in warmth.\ & ventabillity.
then there`s the fact that i`ve needed to put on my long johns long before i did so many times, but didn`t because i had to take off the regular pants.
same thing w/ the hassle of undressing to take the long johns off as i start getting warm next morn.
this pant will be part of my clothing/sleep system fall through spring!

it`s the first piece i`ve owned by mont-bell.
it took me awhile to get past the price, but the more i looked at the workmanship, materials & design that went into it the more believed it would be worth the investment.
i`ll pay the power bill later... just kiddin<g>

Yup, it's love all right :D

Congrats ! They should really help with your system (good thinking) and make it a whole lot less unpleasant with dressing and undressing to add layers
(I hate that too)

It'd be nice if they had womens sizes.... <sigh>... waiting for love to come along..... :D

Enjoy !

Thanks for the review. I am going to add them into my cold weather setup. For some reason in the really cold weather rain pants and long underwear were not cutting it while hiking.

I have their sleeping bag and really like it. I would have gotten the thermawrap top, but it not coming out in XXL until this spring sometime. I like my jackets big enough to fit other layers underneath.

They have womens down pants, but no thermawrap pants yet... :(

Hopefully, they will though!

Tim, have you gotten a chance to use these any more? I am about tready to pull the trigger on these and want to know how they are working for you. I want to order soon while I have the extra cash and can get them in time for the Mt Rogers Campout.

no i haven't... but i have put them on a couple times<g>.
from what i've read from others & what i see w/ the new pair i have, i'm nothing but excited about these pants.
i haven't had a chance to wear them in the cold yet, but i'm sure they will be worth there weight & cost.
sorry... wish i could give you more solid field experience w/ the pants, but i don't think you would regret the investment. ...tim

Great looking pants. FWIW, I stopped carrying midweight Capilene after we weighed a set at work and compared them to the expedition-weight stuff. There was almost no difference (less than 2 oz) in the shirt, and the pants weighed the same IIRC. It's lightweight Capeline or nothing for me now.

i added another picture of the new pants from this weekend's backpacking trip to the uwharrie mts w/ keith (under "other gear" i believe). http://www.hammockforums.net/gallery/files/2/5/PC310078.JPG
also a couple other pictures in "tips & tricks".
i actually got to use the thermawrap pants & i have no regrets in getting those babies!
they are a great piece of gear! i'm looking forward to getting lots of use out of them.

My midweight Capilene pants actually weigh half an ounce MORE than my expedition weight Capilene. Of course, mine are the older variety, and the newer line may differ.
