Correct me if I'm wrong.

Misconception:
Since all the pictures show the hennessy hammock hanging with the tarp in place, I got the idea it was a one piece setup, with the tarp permanently fastened to the rest of the rig.

The true scoop, as I now see it:
The tarp is a separate piece. The hammock and bug net are one unit. (Like a Byers Mosquito or similar)

LIve and learn. The weather shield thread opened my eyes to the truth. I was sitting here thinking "why would you cover the tarp??" And then it dawned on me!!!

You are correct. The tarp is completely separate from the HH. However, there are hooks on the HH spectra line where you "can" hook a tarp and then slide those hooks out to tenstion the tarp, but I think it's safe to say that many HH users rarely use these, because as soon as you get inside the hammock, the natural hammock sag also causes the tarp to sag some. So, I tie my tarp separately from my hammock, which has a whole other set of benefits.

Only the bug netting is permanently attached to the HH, but many people (Blackbishop comes to mind) modify that so it's detachable.

I think one of the Racer models has the tarp permanently attached. Anyone know?

The tarp looks like it's part of the system in most pictures.

The Adventure Racer has the tarp perminently attached.... but a good unstitcher and 10 minutes of careful work will separate it w/o damage to either the tarp or hammock.
