I've been out of camping circulation for years now and will get back into it when my Claytor gets here. It'd be nice to get together with fellow NJ-area hangers and celebrate my re-entry into the wild. Anything going on here in New Jersey?

I'm going to the MAHHA- then I'm going to hit the Shenandoah section of the AT.
We can have a Jersey get together while we're there at MAHHA.

Where abouts is that? The closest I've been in the Pine Barrens is on GSP or the AC expressway, unfortunately.

I did from 206 in NJ to the first road crossing in NY in 2005. Great section! Most people would not believe that there is such rural section of NJ. Including me and I grew up there!

If you have a hang in the Pine Barrens, count me in.
I may do some kayaking there, before or after.

Believe me, I'd love to go. My 8-cyl diesel truck hasn't had a full tank of fuel in many months. The price of diesel, $4.05/gallon, is killing me. But, I still love my truck! :D

Splat,
If you can get away for the weekend, put your thumb out, you may be able to carpool with someone from this forum to the MAHHA hang.

Or rent a Prius or real small car. Save on gas!

Think about it!

There is a great campsite on the opposite side of 206 from the map marker. It is about 2 miles back in the woods, I think it may be call Lower Forge.

There are 2 wilderness campsites, Lower Forge and Mulica river camp site. Lower forge has a 1/4 mile walk from an area you can park and Mulica river has like a 1/2 mile walk. Both have water pumps and privies.

Since Splat is closer to Allentown, we might be able to meet on the AT near Bake Oven Knob shelter.

I'd be up for the 17th-18th of May.

Anyone else ever been to the Pinchot trail? It's in PA but close to NJ with lots of great campsites and not a ton of people.

i was thinking the pines. Bodine field the nite of the 16th for early starters (others can start at Bodine on 17th 7am or at Batsto 9-10am). hike to Lower Forge http://www.njpinelandsanddownjersey.com/open/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=11&MMN_position=36:3 on 17th and camp. on the 18th leave the Botona trail ( map and compass) and hike to 206 at rr xing, through the town of Atsion (its gone now, it's where the holly tree is http://medfordstation.com/~doug/pge4a.html ) hike to Chews Rd. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=h&msa=0&ll=39.706856,-74.786661&spn=0.003648,0.007296&z=17&msid=112746510977574609048.00044a9029eb9c73af755 (my son lives in Chiselhurt, we can get rides home from his house.)

it's about 10-13 miles a day. good test for AT equip. ANY TAKERS :)

I was thinking of the Mulica River site, I was going to stay at Goshen Pond Friday night, canoe down Saturday to the site and canoe out Sunday.

If we want to do the Lower Forge site, I'm ok with that. I would only be hiking in from the parking area, I'll have my kids with me and I'm slowly working them up in miles to hike, but they are still to young to do 13 miles.

I'm in NW Jersey, Sparta. Kind of new to hammocking, been experimenting a bit in the backyard for the last two years in ALL weather conditions. Got the wife interested too.

Haven't cut the cord and gone away from the homestead for a hang yet. But looking forward to a trip soon. Maybe take the beemer (R1100S) so it'd need to be a "car" hanging thing.

Anyhow, I'd love to join everyone at the various regional gatherings (hangings?) but family stuff is keeping us tethered pretty close and without the ability to easily get away for more than a night.

So, if you guys get together within striking distance of Sussex County, NJ post it up and hopefully we could make it.
