SB and taller / wider fellas?

I searched and found some threads that hint at the answer, but anyone have recent experience with this?

I love my WBBB and about have it dialed in, but like all gear junkies, I am intrigued by options. For spec I'm 6'4, 255. Whatcha think y'all?

I briefly had a SB Light Hiker. Same width as the original SB but shorter. I'm 5'10" 195 lbs and found the SB to feel much more narrow to me than my WBBB so I ended up selling the SB as I preferred the BB. That said, others don't seem to mind the narrower design of the SB but it just wasn't for me.

For what it's worth, I just sold my WBBB to fund a SB. I'm 6'2'' 260 lbs.

I had my WBBB for just over a year and probably 50-75 hangs in it (maybe a couple of dozen true nights plus a couple handfuls of afternoon hangs). I had plenty of comfy nights, but once I laid in the SB, it was like night and day.

Forum member Rip Waverly kindly had 2QZQ send me the SB after they finished the RW Convertible mod on it.

I setup the WBBB next to the SB and the difference was pretty extreme IMHO. I wish I would have taken some pictures.

The WBBB felt like a coffin after laying in the spacious SB - very roomy hammock.

I also tried a couple of configurations on the SB (tighter or more slack suspension, further or closer trees, etc.). I could not get a calf ridge in it.

Whereas, there is a substantial calf ridge when you tighten the suspension on a WBBB tighter than recommended (granted, it isn't a limitation of the hammock per se, but certain hangs are not ideal and therefore, you may end up hanging between two trees too far apart, etc. YMMV as always).

At any rate, if you have some extra cash; pick one up for the flock. I don't think you'll regret it.

Same boat as Pizza.... I had the Light Hiker too but sold it and returned to the WBBB. I'm 6ft 180lbs and found the SB a little snug width wise and the bugnet setup wasn't my favorite (this can easily be fixed by 2QZQ however). It did lay flatter than expected though and I loved being able to actually see out of my hammock.

TTTG puts out an excellent product. The workmanship is very impressive. For a bigger guy like yourself, I'd recommend the SB 1.1 ... I haven't ruled out getting myself one actually. :rolleyes:

If you like the wbbb you will like the SB Classic.
I've owned both, as for comfort on my back or left side. They are equal.
I was always able to tweak the BB suspension for minimal to no calf pressure.

Where the SB classic excells is you can lay feet left or right, head at either end.
Sleep on either side or your back and all with no calf ridgeline pressure.
You also have a larger field of view with a greatly reduced wall of fabric.

There is still some fiddle factor when you first put it up.
For me the SB feels best with a 20 degree suspension angle and level(no feet higher) I also think the SB is more forgiving when the trees get farther apart.

Another plus for me is you only have to lay about 1/2 the asym angle to get a flat lay. This really helps the UQ hug your body and the bottom of the hammock better.

For a fella your size I'd recommend a Classic in 1.1 double or 1.9 double.

Well I don't a WBBB, but I am 5'9" and 240lbs
And am using a ENO SN this my first Hammock
It seem to work for me, for now, I'm sure at some point I'll want a DN

I completely agree with Tendertoe and OutandBack's description of the advantages of a SB. I have both a WBBB and the SB classic. I got the WBBB first and love its quality of construction and its innovative design. However, I toss and turn from side to side, I sleep only on my side. So, when I got the SB, I haven't spent a night in my WBBB. It's my "guest" hammock now.

At your height you definitely need the Classic....not the Lite Hiker. We have both in our family. I'm 6'2" and could get away with the Lite Hiker but much prefer the Classic. There will be plenty of room for you. I too switched from a WBBB to a SB Classic and am much happier.

The SF is a huge tarp. I don't think you'll have any issues covering the SB.

I'm equally comfortable in my WBBB and my SBLH. I am wide but short and I can sleep almost anywhere so that may have something to do with it.

I almost hate to say this, but remember how I (5') used say the my SB Classic was "cavernous" and I called it the Taj Mahal? And that I felt there was a lot of wasted fabric for a short person?

Well, I have the SBLH now and have only used it on the deck with the Vario stand but it doesn't feel as wide, even tho Dale said the width is the same. I guess you need the full length in order for the width to widen out :)

Also, the net isn't as far enough away from my face.

I ordered those little rods from Harbor Freight (someone posted a photo) and am going to play around as soon as the weather gets cooler.

Well I bought Rip Waverly's modded SB, I've hung in it once and it was reasonably comfy for those few minutes. It definitely needs an overnight and side by side with the BB. I'll get a review and specs up maybe sometime this week.

yeah.. give it an overnight.
most noticeable was the lack of any sort of calf ridge- even laying on the center line. easy to toss n' turn all night if that's your style.

i moved 'down' to a SBLH- i hope i get the same comfort in that kayak as i did in the canoe.
