I have two pairs of elephant trunks and I really like them over the marlin spike hitch for webbing to whoopie connection. Great product and great guy!

Bloomgorge, it's been a rainy Monday here too. A few items of kit will certain make it a better day. Just ordered some elephant trunks, keys, and crosses. Looking forward to hooking them all up. Thanks for the deal.

I've been lusting after a pair since the winter hang. Just didn't have the cash on hand. Now to temp me with a sale... have to make it to another hang and pick up a set in person I think. Maybe if we can work something out about the MRT this weekend.

Just ordered a pair. I am going to hook the outer ring of my bmbh suspension directly into the trunk and bypass the whoopies altogether.

So today I modified my hammock from one kind of gathered end to another. Larks headed a continuous loop to the end and put the elephant trunk to work. Holy crap is this thing nice! I don't even want to get into how complicated my old system was, but suffice it to say that this is LIGHT YEARS better. I'm not a whoopie sling user, I just use straps out the the E.T. and hook my hammock right on. It is so freak'n sweet! If you can't tell, I'm quite excited about these things. Thanks again Bloomgorge.

I think I get this Red... pics please?
I remember seeing the ET's when they first came out and the innovations bloomgorge introduced are great (I hope there are more from you!). Thinking these might be on a certain list that people put together for late December delivery.

Red,

just be mindful of the wear on the amsteel as it's in the same stop everytime. the edges are rounded and polished so it should be minimal.

Okay, that's what I was thinking. Perfect Red, thanks. Now, could you also use the open hole in the ET to connect your ridgeline or am I just talkin' crazy?

You're just talk'n crazy! :D I was in such a rush to try this out I forgot to put the RL back on. I think I would normally have the E.T. the other way with the hook 'up' so there'd be less chance of it coming out....even tho' I'm sure it never would anyway you hung it.

Thank you all for the support.

Orders to Canada seem to be taking about 1.5wks right now for anywhere other than Ontario

I'm wondering, since the Lions are playing Monday night football and if they win,....should we let the sale roll on?

Sweet $12 elephant trunks. I'll be ordering another set real soon. By the way any idea when you will be getting more tree straps in the store?

bloomgorge
10-22-2011, 20:14
don't know...i changed to a new vendor because their strap material was lighter but still have the 1500lbs breaking strength. i got some material in and did some pull test and it was breaking around 1100lbs. needless to say i'm still looking. it was also a little stiff which i didn't like.

I have Multiple suspension setups that I use on my hammocks according to what I want to accomplish.

Lightest weight, or easiest to use with gloves / mittens.

The Elephant Trunks really are easy to set up and use.

Full length straps are a bit of weight penalty but worth it in some cases.

Good product and easy to use :)

I've been experimenting with mine, and I may have come up with a (non-manufacturer-approved, obviously) alternate configuration for them.

The shape of the Trunk is remarkably similar to the Dutch Buckle, and indeed the webbing fastening system works on the same principle. If one were to use the Trunk body in the same manner as a Buckle, it frees up the "trunk" of the Trunk. In my case, I plan to use it to hold a tarp ridgeline, while a short loop of Amsteel acts as the connector between the Trunk and the hammock. The Amsteel needn't be adjustable as the webbing/Trunk will be used to adjust tension.

I took some quick pics of what I'm talking about, I just grabbed a piece of paracord as an example "ridgeline". While the Trunks don't have the extra corner flanges the Buckles do, after some quick testing I have no reason to believe the Amsteel would slip off while under tension, it's on there pretty solidly.

Anyway, this is purely try-at-your-own-risk, but I'm definitely going to give it some more testing as it could be really handy for some hammock configurations. Heck, if you're feeling adventurous you could try running a structural ridgeline across the Trunks. Forgive me if someone has posting this configuration already!

Sorry but I saw no "sale price" there. Unless you mean that 12.00 for Trunks is the "sale"
