I'm returning to hammock hangin from bivies, for three seasons in the Smokies. I've been good to 40dF with a windshield reflector and near 20dF with a ridgerest in an HH ULB. Whats the point or advantage in blowing the budget on an UnderCover or underquilt for the casual hanger (10-20 per/yr)? What would one use to stay warm in the teens?

Welcome back.

Many people have used a combination of pads down into the teens. Pads are normally a very low cost alternative to under quilts. This thread (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2894) may give you some info on what pad setup may be best for you.

Thanks head. The biggest difference seems to be comfort. Since I have no probs with warmth or comfort on a pad there's no use in change, yet. There sure has been a lot of new hammocks and accessories since I got the HH a few years ago!
