Hello all,

I am traveling to the border area of Costa Rica and Nicaragua along the Sarapiqui River for a medical mission trip in June. I'm looking for a gently used Clark JH, just about any model will do. My daughter is looking for a used HH.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Dave

Remember you get what you pay for. Buy a clark or claytor dont buy junk off of ebay
you dont want to be fixing somthing that brakes down there and wont be able to
get stuff to fix it down there if it brakes.

If i was going to be doing anything down there it would be a good hammock one that
would'nt brake and one that was going to with stand those conditions down there
remember the bug's down there are bad to the bone and carry bad to the bone
type infections.

I cant offer any thing here but support...THANK YOU for going on this Mission Trip. I will add you and your fellow missionaries to my prayer list. When are you leaving?

Thank you all for your moral and prayer support. I am leaving June 8 and returning June 30ish. We fly into San Jose, take an 8 hour vehicle ride, travel up-river, and then horseback to a mission. We'll stay there for about 10 days and then start the canoe trips to the river villages.

My daughter is a 4th year med student and a Lt. in the Air force. A doctor and a couple of RN's are also supposed to meet us there. Should be interesting. I'm scrambling trying to get all of my vaccinations, Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Malaria, Tetanus, and Hep A/B. They tell us that we will need lots of Deet. They also said that any protein we want we'll need to pack in. I'm trying to find some decent bargains on pack food with MEAT! REI is having a decent sale, so I guess I'll be heading there soon.

Anyway, thank you all again and keep us in your prayers.

if you still have time, you may want to go to the garden center & get some permethrin (sp?), mix up a batch, treat your hammock, bug net, & some of your clothing.
there's a thread here were more details are given on how to mix it, use gloves & a stick (or something) to avoid getting the wet chemical on your skin, then hang to dry.

it's apparently not a danger to humans after it dries.

Alan from this site sold me his Clark NA for a great deal. Thank you! It will be put to good and rugged use. My daughter is getting a Hennessy from eBay. Thanks to all of you for your support.

God Bless, Dave
