first unread post link missing

I cannot see the link to the first unread post on some pages anymore. I think it does not show up on threads that have polls and on threads that only have one page of posts. On other threads, the link is still there. Is anybody else experiencing this problem?

Also, I have always wondered if there is a direct link to the first unread post somewhere on the new posts page. It looks like there is a link that takes you to the last post in a thread, but not to the first unread post. I would find the latter link much more useful. Is it there and I'm not seeing it? If it isn't there already, can one of our admins do some magic and put a link to the first unread post on the new posts page?

On the 'New Posts' page (and on every other thread list for that matter) there is a small symbol in the 'last post' column that looks like an arrow. Clicking that for each thread will take you to the last post in that thread. Symbol: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/images/buttons/lastpost.gif That is still present on every thread that I see, regardless of the poll status or number of posts.

Well, I guess I must be getting old. The second I post about the link to the first unread post I see one on the home page to the left of the thread title. Is that new, or is it just on the homepage and not on the new posts (which I normally use), or am I really getting old and confused?

AS, I was talking about the "View first unread" link that shows up in the orange/brown checkered bar when you open a thread (see attached image).

I have never noticed the little button to the left of the thread topic that takes you to the first unread post, but it was there on the homepage a minute ago. The same symbol in the last post column always takes me to the last post in the thread instead of the first unread.

I'm going to look at this further, but from what I can tell that link is only present when there are actually unread posts in the thread being viewed, and it is present for me in all threads with unread posts.

When you click to enter a thread that has unread posts, at the very top of that thread, in the orange header just below the 'post reply' button, appears a 'view first unread' link.

Here is how I read new post. I click "New Post" and them a list will come up with all the threads that have new post in them that you have not read yet. I never saw that icon before yesterday. This is how I will read new posts from now on. The "view first unread" link is still missing in the orange header on some pages, though.

It is not showing up, in this thread, for me either, but I never used it. HOWEVER, in this thread, ALL were unread by me, so perhaps it only shows up when you have read some of it, and then go back in sometime later, hence "new unread".

I think I might have it correct in the above link. I just opened a thread where I HAD read threads. The "read first unread" was there. Clicked it and it jumped to the page and first unread post! Like a book mark. SO, I think in a thread where you have never read anything, they are all unread, so the link doesn't show up.

i've actually seen it both ways.
when i go to a new thread that i've never seen, it usually does not have the "first unread post" option... but sometimes it does.
if that option is there & i click it, the 1st post (which is already visible on the page) will just jump to the top of the screen, putting the Hammock Forums title & info bars out of site.

for me, the link does not show up in threads where I have read some of the posts, but the first unread post is still on the first page. Also, in threads with a poll, the link is missing even if the thread spans multiple pages and the first unread post is on the last page. Now that I know about the direct link from the new posts page, I don't really need to use the "View first unread" link in the orange bar though.

i've actually seen it both ways.

I do think the behaviour is a bit random in some situations, sometimes you get the link, sometimes not. I do always get the link if the first unread post is not on the first page and there is no poll, though. I think the random behaviour in other situations started about two weeks ago.

i'm pretty sure i've seen that "random behavior" for a while now. it's just so occasionally random, that i haven't kept track<G>.
