PU coated polyester vs silnylon

Any major functional differences? I have the chance to buy some of the PU poly stuff at a pretty good price, have been saving up for some yards of sil and was just curious whether I should keep saving my money or not...

I know that sil is hard to beat, if not the ultimate in materials, but is poly a good substitute?

The Gear Guide tarp, aka neo's tarp, is made from PU coated nylon. It does great, just a little heavier than my silnylon.
