Otherwise known as "that other Yosemite Valley some fools filled with water." (Depending on who you talk to... I think it's kind of nice like a lake.)

Got some pictures of the hang. If you look close you can see parallel white lines on the side of my tarp. I tested when I got home; it doesn't seem to affect waterproofness, but it worries me what caused it...

I tied the head end too #$% high. Did not figure this out before nightfall, but still got a better night's sleep than I would have in a tent.

I camped near Rancheria Falls, about seven miles out from the dam, along one of the creeks that flows into the lake.

On the way out I was visited by the Wapama Falls bear, a youngster who finds hikers boring and useless. I sat down to take a drink and eat something, and suddenly this bear strolled out on a big rock overlooking my bit of trail. He stared, I yelled and waved my poles and looked big, he yawned and started to walk off, at which point I got the camera pointed.... North end of a south facing bear, anyone?

This is Wapama Falls, one of the largest falls, from the easterly part of the trail where most tourists don't go. I took this in the morning on my way back to the car.

Was a nice quiet trip, once I got up the trail from Wapama where the tourists don't tend to go. The camping area they wanted me to camp in was nearly full; I took one of the sites full of boulders, as I didn't care much about the ground conditions. ;)

Great trip! Thanks for the report. I would love to get to Hetch Hetchy when the family & I come in the Fall but we are booked into the 4 High Sierra Camps that will still be open as late as we are coming. I plan to sneak a hammock in my daypack...

I still find it amazing that the water from Hetch Hetchy flows all the way to San Francisco by gravity!

Yep, they are rocks, alright. If ya look close, you can also see Yosemite trees and Yosemite streams and Yosemite waterfalls....

"wow really nice scenery too. neo"

Yep, it's them Yosemite rocks that make the scenery so special.

You sure it wasn't the south end of a north facing bear? Or the East end of a West facing bear? :p

Since the lake is generally east-west lengthwise, yep, I'm sure. :D

I will have more hanging opportunities in July, one in Yosemite and one near Huntington Lake. So I will probably bring more of the Sierras to your attention.

You know, lots of you are from many places other than California - no wonder my hammock gets so much attention. There were a couple of ENO hammocks in the campground, but it didn't look like they used them for overnighting; there were dome tents in the same campground.

The white lines is from excess silicone. It won't hurt the tarp at all. Dwight has already tested that. We were concerned when we first made a tarp with it. But have had no problems with it at all.

I love the pictures. I am glad you got some good shots in.

Wow that is a nice tarp, wherever did you get it ;). Amanda hasn't sewed my new one yet since mine got stolen :(. You took some awesome pics, I am very jealous that I do not live close to some places like that. The waterfall itself would make me hike miles to see it, I could live without the bear though.

Yeah, the tarp, you know, just found it one day.... ;)

Normally when I try to get pics like that there are 1,000 tourists speaking six languages between me and the falls. Yosemite can be like that. I fully intend to hike in to Waterwheel Falls, up on Tioga Pass, as that is supposed to be quite unique. Yosemite is definitely someplace you have to see to believe. So many waterfalls packed into one park!

Thanks!

Yeah, it doesn't seem to hurt it... I was just panicking because I hadn't noticed them until this trip. Now I'm worried about my powers of observation more than the tarp.:o
