I missed the mechanism for including the user name my first time through the sequence. Went back to see where I'd gone astray. Here's an annotated picture of the page where you include the HF user name. Click on the line indicated, up pops a comments box.

Thanks for the visual aid, Grizz. I knew when I set up the PayPal button that I added a spot for the username, but a couple of people said they didn't see a place to enter the info. I tried to going through the ordering process this morning and verify that the spot for the info was there, but it wouldn't let me send myself money. Go figure.

Also,

Nick from DD Hammocks threw in a free Travel Hammock (and took care of shipping charges). Once the order arrives and I get all the hammocks sent out to the group buy participants, I will hold a auction for the free hammock, with the money going to help out Hammock Forums.

Thanks Nick and DD Hammocks.

Hi I just paid, I got back from my trip to a broken computer (malware or something) my son is taken 2-3 days to fix it. Have to steal time on others computers when available.

I'm sorry but I did not see the place for the name. Under pressure with teen son hanging over shoulder waiting for me to get off.

Thank you again for setting this up. It is a great deal.

Just a little bump. :D

I plan on placing the order on Monday, unless I get the remaining payments before then. I have a couple of people who didn't get a chance to get their order in before the group buy closed. If any of the commitments have not been paid by Sunday evening, their hammock will go to one of those on the waiting in the wings. Thanks.:D

you're welcome.

but now Dutch wins the hammock war. There goes mutually assured destruction, he is on his way to total HF domination.

I decided that $$ was better spent on some of the new 0.8 oz Camp biners and $2.10 SMC rings. And I knew that some others were wanting in. Made sense to back out.

they both have 13 ft ridge line, but guide gear tarp 1.5 ft wider on each side.you get a better more taunt pitch on guide gear tarp because it is slightly cat cut,but the guide gear tarp no longer available, but the claytor
tarp is lighter and pack down more.the claytor tarp will get the job done:cool:neo

I just want to say that this group buy was handled so far very professionally. I know this is a very difficult task to get a group to all coordinate and get money exchanged plus shipping overseas and then to each individual address. Big Kudos to HC4U. This should be used as a model for other group buys.

HC4U, can you (or did you) post some advice on how you deal with Group Buys? Your experience in doing these would be very valuable to know and understand, so more of us might help out with them. Iafte is doing a group buy on jackets. Maybe you and Iafte could combine your experiences and write about them.

One thing that I had never done before that I did this time was to create a PayPal button that people could go and click on to submit payment. angrysparrow helped by setting up an web page where I could place the button and pricing info (thanks AS). It was pretty easy to do with PayPal's merchant tools. It saved me a huge amount of time and headache this time around.

Other than that my biggest tip would be to stay on top of those who are ordering. If someone changes something or backs out I try and edit the SS immediately, if possible. I start by creating an Excel spread sheet and as people opt in to the buy I add them to the spread sheet (SS). I also use the SS to keep notes on each person. For example, I will make note if someone wants an item shipped to a different shipping address than listed in their PayPal account or to keep track quantity of items ordered. If someone is paying by money order I also make note on the SS. Keeping an updated listed in the group buy thread also helps out immensely.

When I start taking payments, as soon as someone pays I copy and paste their name and shipping info into the SS, right next to their username. That way I know that if I have someone's shipping info entered that they have submitted payment.

Once I receive the merchandise for the group buy, I gather all my packaging and shipping materials and start packaging the stuff. I also print out a couple of copies of the SS. One copy acts as a check list that I use to mark off people's names as I package their items. The other copy I cut up so that a person's username, name, and address are on a little slip of paper. As I package their stuff up in a box, I put in the slip of paper so that I will always know who's stuff is in each box.

As I package I check, double check, and then triple check to make sure I am putting the right stuff in the right person's box. I do one person at a time and take my time. I take frequent breaks if I have to. The packaging is the most time consuming part of the process.

The last step is sealing the packages up. I will take a box, removed the slip of paper with there username and shipping info, tape the box shut, and then immediately attach the shipping label.

PayPal helps in a lot of ways. If I am shipping USPS, PayPal will automatically charge my USPS account for the appropriate shipping costs, and the print a shipping label. This time around I will be shipping some of the packages with FedEx and some USPS. FedEx has the added advantage of being able to track a package.

The HF group buys I have handled have been cake compared to some of the others that I have helped out with. I used to spend a lot of time on a site called Head-Fi which is a fourum dedicated to headphones, headphone amps, and some general audio related stuff. I remember that this one particular group buy was for the components to build a headphone amp and there was well over 300 people participating in the buy. The guy who set the buy up split the list of buyers up between 3 other people who were helping out. I got a list of about 80 people with shipping info and a huge bag of resistors, capacitors, diodes, amp chips, circuit boards, etc that had to be sorted and packaged for each person. Needless to say that was the last time I helped out with a group buy on that site!

It can figure shipping and such but I try and go with a flat rate box or envelope if possible. We have one of those new 24 hour shipping centers in my local post office and I will sometimes take a package there and weigh it to get an idea of shipping charges.

When I got home today I pulled one of the hammocks out of the stuff sack and checked it out. I have to say that I'm pretty impressed with this hammock right out of the package, and I have yet to latch it to a tree.

The fabric is very nice. It's very similar to the fabric of my HH ULBA in weight and feel. The pad sleeve is on the outside of the hammock. As a said before, I love the color of the fabric.

The netting is unique to any I have seen before. I thought is was one of the fabric layers when I first took the hammock from it's bag. It thicker than most I have seen and it's very smooth and soft as compared to the scratchy, snag-prone NoSeeUm I have worked with in the past. It almost seems to act as a blind because it seems to me that it's hard to see inside the hammock from outside, while gazing through the netting from the inside you get the normal looking-through-netting visibility.

The tabs on the netting that Nick said had some sort of sewing problems, making the hammock seconds, looks fine to me, but I only checked one hammock. The hammock I did check had white fabric pencil marks that I guessed were put there to mark the locations of the tabs during the manufacturing process. Those should wipe off pretty easily.

All in all, the hammock is built like a tank and it seems pretty roomy at a glance. It's a little heavier than I am used to, but the whole reason I wanted this hammock was to have a pad insulation system setup. It is also made of three layers of fabric so that adds to the weight.

The webbing that came with the hammock sucks. Bad. It absorbs water like crazy and is much heavier than some of my other suspension systems materials that I have used in the past. I'm not quite sure what I'm gonna use to hang the hammock, but it won't be the stock webbing, that for sure.

The shock cord they included will also be left at home. It's HUGE ! It's easily 2 or 3 times bigger (and heavier) than the 1/8" shock cord I'm using now.

I'm pretty excited with my new hammock and I can't wait to get out and try it. Hopefully I'll find time this weekend.

I hope to have all hammocks shipped out by Tuesday at the latest. Most of you should get them before the end of next week. Lone Wolf I will try to make sure your hammock is one of the first to ship out so that you will hopefully get it in time for your trip.

I know I mentioned the sucky webbing in a different post - ITYS. Not very water resistant. I use my blue amsteel from our previous group buy to hang - just rethread through the channel and add a ring.

The other parts of this hammock just prove it's not a wussy hammock - it's built like a tank and built to last! I'll bet you think the zipper is a little heavy, too! This is no UL, but it's not that heavy. Get rid of the webbing, and it's a lot lighter.

I love my DD - wait til you spend some time in it - it's roomy. You'll also see what I mean about doing something with or in the pad pocket to keep it a little more "together", or reduce the opening.

hmmm... tie the bottom tapes in a simple bow.... This guy has obviously never hiked with me. I can't even keep a shoe lace tied tight... for some reason or other the left shoe always comes untied unless I double knot it. I wouldn't trust my bow tying skills with my body for nothing.

I was a bit unsure about that method as well but it's worked every time I've tried it. The cord is heavy, looks like it will suck up water but I haven't gotten around to changing it yet.

As good as those loops may look, I would suggest adding your own stitching before putting them under stress. I have one loop in front of me as I type that I thought was going to be fine compared to the other (more obviously badly sewn) ones.

Enjoy them.
I'm looking forward to seeing what the HF crowd come up with Re mods etc.

I plan to use the DD as my go to hammock for the near future to give it a full work out. My primary shelter is the HH and this hammock will be a nice change from the bottom loader.

I didnt even know I needed another hammock until the group buy.LOL

I don't think that is possible with you. When you die, we are going to get an extra tall coffin so we can hang your Claytor Jungle inside it so you can hang for eternity.

I thought I saw the weight capacity on these at one point, but cannot find it again. What are these rated for?

From both the original interest thread (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4596), and the DD Hammock website (http://www.ddhammocks.com/products.php), the rating is 150kg (330lbs).

I'll bet that rating is actually the rating of the sewing on the webbing channel - the fabric on mine seems much sturdier than that, and it's a double bottom.

Blasphemy - you are the Claytor spokesman here. If you end up liking it more than your Claytor, I'd have to check your yard for alien pods.

I have to second that opinion. My ENO is rate at 400 lbs and the DD Hammock's fabric feels much sturdier and there's 2 layers.

All hammocks have shipped. Again, please reply to this thread and let me know when you get your hammock.

Also, Nick sent some small info sheets to go with the hammock. I think I included one with everyone's shipment but in case I forgot to stick one in the package, here's what it says:

Before using your hammock we recommend you have a quick look at our hammock set-up instructions which can be found on our website:
http://www.ddhammocks.com/tips.php

Any Questions just ask.

IMPORTANT: For those who purchased the Travel Hammock- Please take care not to tie the mosquito net too high above the hammock as it can put excessive pressure on it once you enter the hammock.

As posted here: http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5136

Neo, take a deep breath. You could have at least salvaged the fabric rather than just pitching it out. Or called DD, or sold it to one of us.

I don't even notice the length of the hammock because of the width, and I am taller than you by 3 inches. I usually lay diagonally in mine, due to the added width. Maybe your comfort in the hammock was due to the sag - it hangs differently than other hammocks, and just like any hammock, the sag needs to be played with to find your sweet spot.

As far as the quality - Nick did say they were 2nds, and that the tabs may have sewing issues. I wish you had taken pics of the failures b4 you pitched the hammock out - it would have been very informative for the rest of us to see what to watch for.

I, for one, will inspect all the seams and tabs before hanging, and resew the tabs b4 putting any stress on them if they show any sign of improper sewing or weakness. I may even sew a grosgrain strip the length of the tabs for reinforcement if it seems to be an issue.

I know you are mad about the situation, but any manufacturer can have some defects, and these were sold as 2nds, not as pristine, perfect merchandise. Hopefully nobody else has these issues you reported, or has been too colored by your report to give a good hammock a try. Yes, the DD is a good hammock, despite your report, and is a very comfortable hammock. I have no issues with my first one, and expect no issues with the new one I'm getting from the group buy. If I do, I will report honestly and descriptively on the issues, with pictures of the failures. And I will contact DD about the hammock in question if it came to that, and I would expect a response from Nick in return. But again, I expect no issues because I already have a DD. It's not my main hammock (that is a Clark,) but it is a great hammock for the price, and I have no reservations about the quality or material used in the DD.

Okay. Since all the hammocks are paid for an shipped I'm going to close this thread. Any further discussion on DD Hammocks purchased in the group buy can go in this thread (http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?p=72171#post72171).

When you get you hammocks please reply to the above thread an let me know. Thanks to everyone who participated in the buy!:D
