DIAMOND RAIN FLY (3x4m.)
Design: This fly is designed for our Jungle Hammock, but some people like it and wish to order it separately. The Diamond design gives maximum coverage to the hammock with minimum surface area and only two lines to stake down (the other two are tied to the trees above the hammock). It is narrow at the ends (near the tree) where the hammock is higher, and it is wider in the middle where the hammock is lower. You can adjust the mid-sections to a low point for maximum rain protection, or you can pull the mid-sections out to allow a breeze and protection from the sun. The Diamond Fly comes in Camouflage color only. It is 100% waterproof Polyurethane coated Nylon designed for very rainy conditions. (photo: Rick Ashworth). Color: Camouflage. Stuff Sack: Camouflage. Material: 244 ripstop Nylon. Rain Sheet Dimensions: Diamond shape - 400cm long x 300cm wide & 250cm along each side (13' long x 10' wide). MORE PICTURES.
COST: US$40 (more than one: US$35).
SHIPPING: WORLDWIDE FREE.

Hi Rick -I am afraid I will lose money if I have to ship all these tarps to different addresses. For that price, I can ship all the tarps to ONE ADDRESS, and then you guys can distribute from there.I hope this is okay with you.Cheers

unfortunately I have to agree with Narwhalin. By the time Neo has to pay shipping to each person (and they pay him back) the price is back up to the regular price or close to it.

I also see Tom's side of it since it will cost him more to mail out 15 tarps to different addresses than to one

But what if we could all order separately from Tom but put a group code in to get the group discount. His shipping is free anyway. It would be like getting 19 separate orders with the group discount. Does that make sense?

So what's the verdict? Any more word on this, Neo? It seem like by the time we pay s&h to Neo, there would really be not much of a savings. Not to mention by all ordering ourselves, it wouldn't really be a group buy, would it?

oops, NCPatrick had a good idea and posted while I was typing. I don't know if there is any way to accomodate this without input from Tom.

It would be a buy by a group. I guess it's semantics.

Based on the reports on the quality of the tarps, I will order 2 even if I only save a few bucks. I need one to use with the DD hammock that is coming.

I guess what I am saying is the price point for the product is good with out the discount. The SG with shipping is close to the Claytor tarp price and I understand it is a much better tarp.

Just my opinion.

Noshtero
07-17-2008, 12:49
I fully understand Tom's situation. Lumping all the tarps together and shipping once allows him to bring the price down. If he has to ship them individually, he pays shipping every time. At $40 apiece shipped, there's no way he has a very large profit margin as it is. I can fully see $30 apiece shipped means he loses money on each tarp.

As nice of an offer as this would be from Tom, I would assume to just pay the $2-3 dollars extra and not have Neo be bothered with reshipping everything.

NCPatrick
07-17-2008, 13:05
There has got to be an easier way to set up group buys.

Tom gets full brownie point/goodwill credit for being willing to give a group discount. Not his fault if we can't find a way to take advantage of the offer. <shrug>

Lone Wolf

I wonder how many folks that want the tarp will be at the MAHHA. They could be given out at the event.

His shipping charge is probably built into the price of the tarp which may cut his profit down.

It makes sense but how much of a hassle is it to deal with 19 separate orders (and packing them) vs one package for 19 tarps.

If I order one it will be used when I carry a tarp and nothing else.

i am odering 2 tarps thats 70.00 bucks.tom hennessey wanted 200.00 bucks for his smaller camo tarp and that was shipping to england needless to say our british hanger opted for the claytor camo tarp 40.00 bucks shiped to england, right now the claytor tarp is the best bang for the buck 40.00 buck for one or 35.00 if more than one thats free shipping to.sorry i got the cheaper 30.00 dollar deal with free shipping to one point.but it would cost more time and money than that would be worth.:cool:neo

Sounds like it's not really a group buy anymore, we're all on our own. Unless someone wants to deal with getting all the tarps, and shipping to everyone, the discount is the standard discount that everyone gets.

Even if we got them for $30 each, you are still looking at probably $5+ to reship them out and PayPal fees. A $5 or less savings from the original $40 price. Hardly seems worth the effort.

Greg Dunlap

I agree, I didn't need another tarp but thought having a "camo" one would be cool if I could get it at a discount. Paying next to full price however?? That does not justify one just for the heck of it. I'll have to drop out of this buy this time.:(

My thoughts exactly - without a "group" discount, it's not a "group buy." I am dropping out as well - and if I didn't say it here, would anyone know if I purchased or not anyway?

Dropping out as well. I will still most likely end up getting a spare tarp, but I'll just go directly to Tom like normal.

Thanks again to Neo and Tom. This was a great idea. We just need to do group buys on more expensive items that have larger profit margins and therefore more room to discount.

Lone Wolf

I'll still order one too. My niece needs one for the hammock I made her recently.

I haven't gotten around to making tarps yet, although that might change if I can find some good silnylon colors to work with.

Until then, I like the price and size of these tarps even without the discount.
