whoopies on the DD's

When you use whoopies are you running the whoopies right through the end channel of the hammock? I was worried about the small diameter of the whoopies tearing the hammock. Also if you do run them through the channel, how do you stop water from running down???

Right now, I took about 50cm of the included webbing and tied the ends together. I then larksheaded the whoopies below the knot.

Well, good question? I have mine going through the channel. Only hung about 4 times and so far it looks fine. I guess time will tell?

Yup, you can run the whoopies straight through the channel.

Have no fear of it tearing, it won't. 100+ nights in my DD travel with 2mm whoopies and theres no sign of it wearing anymore than the stock polyprop webbing.

I don't see any need to stop water running down with hardware, the whoopies are effective at stopping it and it never an issue for me.

Hi there,

I made my own whoopie slings with a 2.7mm dyneema cord and I did not put them through the hammock for two reasons: I am worried that they'll cut through and it would also propably hinder me from using the DD hammock as a bivi tent on the ground. So I just cut a little piece of the original straps that came with the hammock and tied a loop. Then I attached a carabiner. So I'm now hanging the whoopie sling to the carabiner, which also would be a water-stopper in case something is coming down the whoopie slings.

PS: use a sheet bend to form the loop at the hammock where you attach the carabiner to. It can simply be removed when needed.

The tail of the whoopie will act as a drip loop but if you do not feel safe with it tie a slippery half hitch at the tail to help with the process.

@jahang it is like the DD's video http://www.ddhammocks.com/videos/whoopie-sling-setup i have made the same install on my Hennessy Explorer, the DD hammock's Whoopieslings tale is too short an other setup on my HH.

Why could it be a problem if you use your DD as Bivy ?
