Hey Hammock Forum friends, in talking with the other HF mods/administrators I have reached a decision that I want to share with you.
It's not a big deal but talking about it here will save me from explaining many times elsewhere

For some time I have felt guilty that I was not contributing like I could/should to the business of keeping HF running smoothly.
Between HF burn out, other life issues weighing me down & my lack of computer skills, I have offered little help to the running of the site compared to the others who have been present & busy.

Therefore, I am going to return to normal member status. I suspect I will feel a certain relief, & find it it more pleasurable to take part in hammock discussions.

I would like to once again thank the HF members for being such a unique & caring group of folks. It has been a pleasure helping moderate this community. I think we would be hard pressed to find many (if any) other places on the web where such a large & diverse group of people get along so well. I hope to keep seeing old friends & meeting new ones at some of the hammock hangs yet to come.

At the same time, I would like to announce that HF has a new moderator! Our fellow member JohnSawyer has graciously stepped up to Moderator status. His always helpful tone and valuable input have been a boon to this community, and we think he will be a natural fit to the moderation staff. Join us in welcoming him!

Thanks friends,
Tim

:woot::woot::thumbup: Let me be the first to congratulate John!! How long have you been holding that one under your hat ;)

I agree that John will do an absolute great job. I'll have to watch my P's and Q's around him now  Holy Cow, I might actually get scolded by John. This changes our relationship a bit  Just kidding!

I'm glad your not leaving us slowhike. When I first started reading this, I was worried, but now I totally understand where you are coming from. Thanks for explaining and letting us know what's going on.

Tim, I'd like to offer an emphatic 'Thank You!' for all the time, input, and effort you've put into HF over the years. You've been an institution here since the forum's earliest days. It was an honor to get to know you well, and to work with you here. I hope you truly enjoy sitting back and posting without having to worry about keeping track of things!

And a special 'welcome aboard!' to JohnSawyer. You've been a valuable contributing member of the dicussions, and we thank you for stepping up to help out further.

Ditto.

It's actually strange to lose a mod. JohnSawyer is obviously a great addition to the team, but it just seems weird that slowhike won't have the moderator bug under his avatar. But yeah, slowhike has left a definite impression with the mod team as a whole. He has always stood for the good side of us all. I'd say he'll be missed, but he better not stop coming around to be missed. I know where he lives. :sneaky::D

Thanks for everything slowhike!
Welcome to your new job JohnSawyer. It's easy....I promise. ;)

First Congrat's to John, I am sure you will do your best!

Second, Slowhike, I have to say that my short and limited encounters with you have always been a pleasure, you have a calming way about you that just fit as a Mod! While I completely understand your reasoning, and wish you the best, you should know that you also left a wonderful impression on how Moderators can/should be viewed (nothing against the rest of ya, so don't take it personal)!

Take care,

CB

I want to first thank slowhike for his dedicated service to us all. I am convinced that moderating such an active site is a consuming task.

Secondly, I'm also convinced that JohnSawyer is an excellent choice for moderator! I have had the pleasure of participating in many common threads with John and I'm excited to see him step into this role.

Having been a mod on many gaming forums, a few of which I still mod on, I know the burn out and appreciate what you are going through. I would like to thank you as well as the other mods here for running a top notch site. It is not often that you find a group of mods who are all willing to put the time this staff obviously does. If some of those past forums had more like you guys I might still be working with them.

Special thanks now goes out to Tim and John. Joyfully, TL

First off, much respect to Tim and all the mods of HF past, present, and future. You do great things that make this forum much more than a forum.

And what a superb choice for a replacement! There are few people on this forum who have not benefited from John's knowledge, generosity, and friendly nature in one way or another. He will make an excellent addition to the sterling group of moderators this forum enjoys.

Mad props and much thanks!

Tim, Thanks for all you have done. I find HF the most peaceful of all the groups in which I participate. I usually don't even think of all the work that must go into keeping this in check. So...a big thanks to all the mods who keep it that way.

Perhaps you will have some time to come up this way and get together.

I may be late to the party, but I understand how big of a decision something like this can be. Almost 10 years ago I helped another forum get up and running, which now has almost 2 million posts and hosts a full fledged car show and drag races every year. Do your duty and bow out when the time is right.

Now you get to engage in all the shenanigans members enjoy. >:)
