View Full Version : CLOSED: Gauging Interest on Tarp (speer) group buy
All,
Two weeks ago a buddy and I got caught in a substantial rainfall for a few hours. We decided that our next piece of gear should be a quality tarp.
After looking around I settled on a few choices, one of which being tarps from Ed Speer (http://www.speerhammocks.com/Products/Tarps.htm).
I thought it would be worth it to contact Ed Speer and see if we could arrange a group buy. Here is what he threw out:
8x10 CatTarp reg $99.00 ea
10% discount = $89.10 ea
20% discount = $79.20 ea
10x11 WinterTarp reg $119.00 ea
10% discount = $107.10 ea
20% discount = $95.20 ea
WinterTarp Accessory Kit reg $17.00 ea
10% discount = $15.30 ea
20% discount = $13.60 ea
The 10% discount would be if I arranged the sale and Ed Speer shipped them, the 20% discount would be if I collected the monies and paid him in one payment and shipped the tarps myself. Tax would be charged because I live in NC.
Does anyone else have any interest? I realize my post count to the site is low and that could make others doubtful of doing this and that I can understand. About the only thing I can do is give you my eBay ID and show that I have 257 feedbacks, 100% positive and that I have had that account since 2003.
Post your thoughts and maybe we'll make this happen.

Would anyone outside NC be willing to handle the payment to Ed to eliminate the Tax? What will that do to the prices?
6.75% is the rate Ed Speer has to charge in NC.

5, so it looks like we have enough interested. Just need to nail down some particulars. I sent him a message about how much I would save on shipping if I picked them up vs. shipping to me. I'm only about 1.5 hours away. Trying to find out if that savings makes up for the sales tax.

Probably won't be enough of a savings to cover your fuel costs.
You could come to the SEHHA in September and pick them up.

Ok guys, his offer is only good through the last day of the month.
If you are interested I will need you to send me payment so I can make the order.
After the last of the month Ed is going to have to raise his prices due to his cost for sil nylon so we really need to move on this.
FYI orders over $600 ship free (if shipped in one bulk order). So unless someone speaks up within 24 hours about having their stuff shipped out of NC and then mailing out to each person we are going to have to pay sales tax.
What are everyone's thoughts?
I will volunteer to handle the payments and ship out all the tarps. Couldn't do PP though as there is a 3% charge so all payments would have to be mailed in. I have the Cat Tarp, but would be getting a Winter Tarp as well.

Even though I do not need a tarp, I think this is a cool idea. Thank you Hines for taking the initiative and asking Ed, then arranging all this. Ed makes some great stuff. Enjoy!

How's the 8x10 compare to the HH stock tarp size-wise? Does it provide considerable additional coverage?
jax i don't have one, my first speer tarp will be from this order. It's 11:20am EST (sunday), you have about an hour to msg MRPREZ if you want a tarp!
We are somewhat short of our goal to get a $600 order together. We need at least 1 of each type of tarp or 2 winter tarps. If anyone wants to get in on this deal, let me know ASAP.
The tarps have been ordered and Ed will ship them to me on Tuesday. As soon as I get them and have your payments, they tarps will be sent right out. I ordered all brown tarps to make it easier on Ed.

Mrprez, thanks for handling this. Let me know when it ships. I am not in a huge ruge myself. I AM excited though...have been wanting a MacCat for over a year now...and never really justified purchasing one till now! Thanks again!!
All tarps were dropped off at the PO this morning via Priority Mail. You should have them by the first of the week I would think.

Just to rub the salt into the wound.....expect his prices to go up soon. Material prices have been going up for a while and he hasn't raised his prices. Yet.

I'm hoping to be there. Went to the Spring hang and really enjoyed myself. Problem is, I'm having some surgery on my wrist this week and don't think I'll be able to set up my gear. I'll have to wait and see. I know there will be plenty of folks willing to help, so if I'm feeling okay I may give it a try.
