I finished my DIY tarp last night and set it up this morning to see how it hangs. It is 12'x10' rectangle of 70d ripstop nylon. Reinforced with 200d Oxford. I really like the coverage it provides. The only change I see is adding a center tie out on both bottom edges. The guy lines are spliced into the triangles at the corners and then tightened with Mini LineLocs.

This is in my backyard at a spot where I have 5 trees close enough to hang 4 hammocks. I call it the "Hammock Farm".

Excellent! Great tarp, great coverage Ellis. You'll appreciate the addition of center tie-outs once the rains hit - will help with the sag that happens.

Very nicely done! Tarps have always been that DIY I come back to then put off again and again!

Very nice.

I suggest adding two tie outs to each side. That will form doors you can close in winter mode to block the weather.

I should have added that all the material for this project came from DIY Gear Supply (http://www.backwoodsdaydreamer.com/) and Scott was always there to answer questions.

My wife did the sewing as she won't let me touch her thread injector. But I am extremely satisfied with the results and encourage all to try it yourself.

I had that thought also. Will have to figure out how far in to place them.

Awesome job!

Thanks, that means a lot.

Also another awesome thing that you could do with the pullout cord is get some kind of stretchable cord. This will really help because you can move it out of the way easier. It will get in your way when you are walking around. Also using orange cord might also help so you can see the cord much easier.

I just received 25' of orange dynaglide from Dutch that is going to be used for the guy lines. Along with the "glow in the dark" LineLocs, it should be fairly visible. I chose the digital camo ripstop because I blending in with the woods as much as possible. Not trying to hide though, especially not my guy lines where someone could get hurt.

I've made a few tarps this size, and putting the bottom tieouts 3' in from the corners has worked well for me.

Did you use Scott's 70d PU Ripstop on this? (just ordered some of the same for myself - woot! woot!) Looking forward to building my own tarp - it is a bit lighter/whiter than i had anticipated, but for the cost - can't complain but too much

This is something that I am giving serious consideration to. Do you have any pictures of how it looked buttoned up?

Yes, that is what material I used. I bought the 2ds and see no problem with them. It is lighter because the morning sun is catching it. It is a little darker but just nice for blending in with the woods.

Your comments and advise have convinved me to add the extra tie outs. I will post pictures in this thread when it is finished and buttoned up.

Nice work.
I'll agree with the others, more tieouts means more set up options. With 5 tieouts per each side you can close the ends for doors, prop up the middle on trek poles/sticks, tilt the sidewalls for good views or added wind rain protection, etc..

The added tieouts are fairly negligable in terms of weight. The added set up options are priceless.

Was testing my new DIY tarp yesterday. Had it staked down fairly well. Fell asleep in the hammock listening to the wind gust. Was awakened by a loud "POP". Scared the snot out of me as I thought I had blown a tie-out. Took the tarp and hammock down, left the stakes in the ground. Today I am sealing the tarp and I found out what popped. Guess the tarp is constructed well.
