You have just bought a very good tarp. You may not get any communication but you'll get the tarp,,,,,,,,,might be late. This is an old subject around here. Good luck.

Absolutely true about communications that can be somewhat hit or miss but You'll eventually receive your tarp after silent waiting but tarp itself are nice! Had been in the same boat couple months ago.
Hust gon the shipping information yay..

OES is a one-man operation, and he's a busy man. People love to jump down his throat because they don't understand that sometimes you deal with the practicalities of the fact that tarp-making is a side project and not a full time job. This is cottage gear, not REI.
Im going to love it and to many people say great things about his gear. I couldn't pass it up.

This is a [moderator's edit] excuse and nobody is jumping down the guys throat. If the website says "Ships on the 13th"... then guess what? It should ship on the 13th or there should be communication sent to indicate otherwise.
Its all about managing customer expectations. If it said on the website, "Orders may take 4-6 weeks to fill and there may be little communication" at least we, the consumer knows what they're getting into. I just got my tarp this week, and its great... and based upon the reviews if it stated "4-6 weeks and no communication" I still would have bought it. Saying "he's too busy" is a cop out... I'm sure Brians a hell of a nice guy, but he's not a great businessman. Especially here, most folks will wait for quality... just tell the consumer their going to wait.

Then don't buy his tarps. This constant whining about something that's pretty well known by this point, the people who did business with him months or years ago piling on to repeat the same points over and over again, gets old.
Brian is slow and his communication isn't great. He also makes some of the most robust tarps you can buy. Deal with it or don't, but shut up about it already.

Both of these are true, but don't make excuses is what I'M saying. This should be on the site, and folks that pay their money and don't even get so much as a confirmation of that order after two weeks are entitled to a little moaning...

Take it to PM kids. :glare:
Opinions have been asked and given. No need to repeat it and add insults to it. It is VERY well documented that Brian's communication skills are far less than desirable. And yes, you are entitled to a little gritching...a little.

They are - the people who did business with him ages ago, constantly re-hashing it, are the ones who annoy me.
I finally got my maccat standard and i guess he never got my color email so i ended up with brown :(

I have two of his tarps and will order another as soon as my BIAS arrives.
Brian is an Eagle Scout, engineering grad, and who knows what else. I'm sure the young mans plate is full.
I would suggest to those here that have it all figured out: write a book, retire, sit in your hammock and collect mailbox money (i.e., royalties).

That's great... I just finished my MBA, work full time, own a smoothie franchise on the side, and have three kids and a wife to come home to... And even with all of that I can find the reply button in my email box.
He makes great tarps, and has poor business practices. The end. If you can suffer through the latterm you'll enjoy the former, but don't make excuses for him.

Settle down a little. The guy makes great tarps. He rushed mine and I got it just in time for my trip, which was a great surprise.

Congrats! From my understanding those MacCats are one of most bombproof tarps. Remembered that I somewhere on HF seen video of that hailstorm with big hail ant tarp survived. Funny enough I'm lucky with weather when I hanged my hammock and tarp several times had been rain in the forecast but not one raindrop in those nights but one time used tarp as windbreak in high wind.

My biggest issue in the communication and business aspect is paying the extra money for express service and it has already been 2 weeks. I agree that there should be some credit given to the time and care he puts into his craftmanship. However, don't offer express service for an extra $26 without letting the customer know that it will still be a few weeks. So, for now I will continue to gripe and mope about until it gets here... maybe in time for a fall hang.
