MICHIGAN WINTER HANG 2013
Location: Ludington State Park
Dates: January 11th -13th 2013
The cost for camping will be $4 per person per night. Ranger Dan will come on Saturday to take a head count and collect the coinage. For anyone who comes from out of state, there is a park pass that you have to purchase the annual pass cost $29, and the daily pass costs $8/day. Ranger Dan can take care of that on Saturday as well. If you are in state and dont have the pass, the cost is $11 anually (Up $1 from last year).

i am in no kids and its just before the semester starts have a small truck will be bringing some wood we will need more hopefully oh and yes i will bring my christmas lights again.

Yes I know your track record. Although the last few trips I have been on with and without you I had rain. So if my theory is right the combination of you and I at this event means SNOW right.
I'm looking forward to my virgin hang with my own WBBB and UGQ combo!! And meeting up with a great bunch of folks, eating and sharing, and having a great time! The weather will just be part of the entertainment. Hope there's a lot of firewood since I'm and admitted pyro!

The temps are dropping up here, there is a forecast for a big storm later this week. Hoping for a white Christmas and then...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!!!!!!!!

Mine leaked out of the tank. It was sitting for about 8 years in my Dads storage locker then I finally got it back.
I tried it out at home last year before the winter hang and it worked with no problems. Then at the hang it leaked from the top of the tank. So I re-taped the joint and it held for most of the summer but I don't know how the Teflon tape holds up against the white gas. I may have to replace the tape with an O-ring setup.
The last time I was at the Coleman store at Burch Run the rep told me that I should be able to reorder the whole assembly.
The stove is just about as old as I am if and it still is kicking.
We ended up with about 4-5" of wet heavy snow with this storm. Good base material. Hope and dance for more of the white fluffy stuff. No not downy goodness! LOL!

I work that weekend.... I will try to get it off.... I don't think I will stay the night, I hate being cold..... But maybe I will come up for the day on Saturday, Ludington isn't to far away. Put me down as a maybe....

They do have small cabins for rent, I believe it is $35 a night.

A cabin hmmm, but how bad will I get mocked? No seriously I don't think I will be able to get it off, had to use a bunch of vacation time because of a nasty flu bug, that I am still fighting. I really want to go though... Have fun guys!

The state park campground at Ludington is pretty large -- in what section do we all expect to gather?

Last year they plowed and we camped around Site 321 in the Beachwood Back area. Stone might have better information.
Notice that there are some trails to the north. Last year a lot of people enjoyed hiking and enjoying the area, which includes a lighthouse on the beach. Might want to bring your snowshoes. Last year they weren't necessary, and that seems to be the case this year as well so far.
If it is the same as last year, it will be the Cedars Loop that will be open. We will most likely be in the back of the loop. If the weather shakes out as it looks it might, leave the snowshoes, take the canoili.

I was going to ask if you had a down speedo, but I really don't want to know.
One of the guys I work with said its supposed to be nice for the next week or so. My reply was don't tell me that I want it to be cold and nasty for this weekend to test some gear.

There is only a couple of inches of snow remaining, and is well packed. Road to Campground area is plowed as well as a couple of the campsites. This according to the Park Office.

The closest would be STIX, but I dont recomend.
Then there is ChuckWagon, but its jsut a pizza and beer joint.
But there is are bevy of bars in town.
I suspect by the time this weekend rolls aroud there will be very little snow on the ground at all, if any. High temps all week will be in the 40's, and rain for Fri, Sat, and Sun which could change over to snow and sleet in the afternoon. Oh joy!

I have 20lb of propane for my newly converted suitcase stove. Also I have 1gal of white gas for fuel for the lantern and as a cooking backup. As of last night the propane burned for about 10min with no problems.
I am also looking at trying to take Friday off as well.
This work thing is really messing up my fun schedule.

Welcome to the forums!
There are plenty of opportunities to hike around the State Park about 20 miles of trails. Many people take off for day hikes and the such. We take over a section of the campground, so it is like car camping. But, you can wander back in the woods a bit and set up. The Park Staff loves us, and pretty much lets us do as we please, within reason. LOL! We are not confined to actual campsites.

Just a friendly reminder for everyone to bring a proper chair. It is car camping so there is some room for luxury here. IIRC last year there was some sort of collapsible bar stool affair that self destructed in pretty short order. :eek::lol:

There is pretty much little to no snow here in town. The State Park is about the same. I would recomend bringing some boots for the possible mud and such.

I'm really looking forward to this weekend after reading all these posts and checking out the videos from past MI hangs! Can't make it up Friday, but will be rolling in around noon on Saturday for the festivities. Does anyone know when the Ranger makes his rounds for fees so we can settle up? Save us 2 spots!

Well at the last hang i thought i had a woodbooger throwing stones and sticks at my tarp, when i woke up there were a lot of pbr cans around my tarp so I'm not sure who it was now.

The rain has all but stopped here. How I am going to get through the next 3 hours as work is beyond me. Cant wait to get into the woods and hang with good friends!
Bringing my boxed WBBB, UGQ topquilt and under quilt, and sleeping bag. Testing time! Can't wait!!

Argg...you guys are making me jealous since I can't get up there till tomorrow. Doesn't look like the snow will be around so I'm betting that snowshoeing is off.
Looks like high winds 20-24 with gusts to 40 are in the forecast for Saturday. Have a great hang tonight and enjoy the downtime in the woods!
Lunch was great, saw 1energy, gargoyle, TZ and Wolverine. All packed and on my way to the park soon.
Great time last night. Really enjoyed meeting everyone, thanks MUCH for the endless fire, chili and fun followed by a toasty hang. Even enjoyed chipping out this morn.

Home and drying gear after another great weekend in the woods with fellow hangers. Great time seeing old faces as well as meeting some new ones too. Saturday was super warm, 50's, so much for a winter hang but we did get some mid 20's last night and woke up to a nice coat of ice on everything... Had a chance to talk to Ludington State Park Unit Manager as well as a few of his staff and they all were impressed with our camping unit of choice...
This was MissyLou's first cold weather hang and she was snug as a bug last night.:cool:
Thanks to everyone that attended, all those that kept us fed, and Mr Pink for his generous truck load of wood again...:D

Glad to make it to my first (and hopefully many future) group hangs. Hat's off and a big thank you to all those who organized it. Next time I'm bringing name tags so I remember who's who. I'd never been to LSP, so it was pretty cool going someplace new. Thanks again and happy hangin'

Had a great time this weekend. Had a lot of fun taking my frozen sheet of sil down yesterday morning.
