View Full Version : Name that Hammock Contest

CONTEST: The BIAS Campus Lounger suffers from an identity problem. It's a 9 oz. (that's nearly as light as the Weight Weenie), 11 feet long (same as the rest of our hammocks) and comes with the same design and ridgeline. It's light (especially compared to other products on the market) and it is made for overnight camping. We use the CL ourselves and it's a great camping hammock. We named it due to the availability of collegiate colors, but we want to rename it to reflect its light weight and purpose. We want your help. The Buttheads at BIAS will judge submissions. Winner wins a double layer hammock in your choice of available colors. Submit names here or on Facebook. View the link for info/specs. Entries will be accepted through Friday, Feb. 15. Post them in this thread if you would or on our Facebook thread. We need at least 25 submissions by Friday to have a good selection to choose from, so tell your friends. Thanks!

The hammock and specs can be seen here:

I'm thinking this needs a name that lets people know it can go wherever they do, like a Companion...

BIAS Explorer, Trekker, Nomad, Adventurer, or Navigator

Might even add the word "lite" to attract those gram conscious in nature.

Good luck with the contest and thanks for the opportunity.

Josh: You pointed out an obvious flaw in nomenclature. You definitely don't own us an apology... we appreciate your help and owe you a "thank you!" So... Thank you! You said what others were obviously thinking and it got us to thinking -- which took skill on your part. Buttheads don't like to do a lot of thinking. Plus, this is fun.

This one was a really difficult selection. Some were creative. Some were funny. Some were safe. Most were good.

Our goal was to see the name reflect two things based on the confusion the original name created:
1) Demonstrate it is a terrific and comfortable overnight hammock (11 feet long, 56 inches wide and made of low-stretch material)
2) Have the name work to show it's a lightweight hammock (9 ounces which is lighter than a GTUL!).

When faced with many, many good options, my mother taught me to go with your first instinct. Three or four more caught my attention, but I kept going back to that first idea, The Hiker, from highlife.

But a great addendum came from stevebo... "maybe add lite to one of these names..." and he went on to suggest the name "hiker" among a few others.

So we're proclaiming both victorious for renaming the hammock the "BIAS Hiker Lite." It's simple, straightforward and utterly devoid of confusing terminology. And, to my knowledge, it's not in use elsewhere which is a good thing.

PMs inbound to both tomorrow (it's late and my bedtime has arrived) for shipping addresses for their double layer BIAS Hiker Lites. We really, really appreciate all the fabulous input and should we opt for one of these other fine names for a future product, we'll send you one of whatever we make for your marketing brilliance.

Thanks again.

Wow, thank you so much! I'm very honored that my suggestion was taken, but I'm more impressed with the responses from members, and the generosity of Brian, Shane and crew.

Brian has been VERY good to communicate with me about the hammock, and generous with this giveaway contest. He's helping me work out a new hammock setup, with all kinds of good advice and thrown in! He's very down to earth and from what I understand, his work is top notch. I'm super new to hammock hanging, and I'm looking forward to rocking in my new hammock very soon. I'll be sure to give an update once the goods arrive.

Thanks again, BIAS.

And for those of you who don't know, the "Hiker Lite" is currently on sale for February! $28! BIAS Hiker Lite (http://www.buttinasling.com/dolalo.html)
