Me and 2 of my friends would like to take a trip over to the ADK park and camp a couple of nights. We would be coming from the west on I90 through Utica so to save trip time we want to just barely enter the park itself. We basically want to make it there and then start hiking.
Growing up I spent plenty of time on the eastern side of the park so I am pretty unfamiliar with the western side.

We are looking for about a 5mi hike (on trail or off) to a body of water where we can set up camp for a couple of nights.
Does anyone have any experience, thoughts, ideas for this area? The more secluded, and less traveled the better.

One place I found elsewhere that we just added to the list is Chub Pond.
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=chub+pond&hl=en&ll=43.523099,-75.051899&spn=0.044063,0.076389&sll=43.243077,-74.773121&sspn=0.088534,0.152779&t=h&gl=us&hnear=Chub+Pond&z=14
and this map location would be a good reference to where we are looking to go.

I had a friend on South Lake a bit SE of there. That is prime snow belt so there is probably 3 or 4 feet in there right now. Maybe more with the storm last week.

Chub pond sounds good. Duct tape can tell you more as he has been there.

I can tell you that if you drop one road south the road into Honnedaga is maintained all year. There are also places on S Lake to park and leave a car. There is drive in camping along the SW shore of North Lake.

Chub is not very secluded or less traveled, but other than that it fits your criteria well. Unless you go to the off trail portions along Chub. Must be aware of regulations for camping 150' from the water in un-designated spots though. Hammocks make that easy!

PM incoming.
