I've made an underquilt that I will be testing at the end of this month. I've fixed the air gaps, and feel with adding a pad and solar blanket, I could probably get down to some realistic temperatures that I will see on my AT thru hike in 2008. Now I need a top quilt to cover up with. I like poncho liners, but they aren't quite enough. I don't want to spend a lot of money, or get something real thick. I will be using my thermal underwear as part of my sleeping insulation. Does anyone know of any good inexpensive synthetic quilts? I appreciate any suggestions.

Check out the Ray-way kit if you can sew.
You might want to check out the Slumberjack Superguide 30 (2 lbs. 4 oz.). I got one on sale from REI ($45). I tried it last week as a top quilt on a CCF pad. It only unzips about half way. I was out for about 1/2 hour at 35 degrees and was quite comfortable in long johns. Haven't tried it all night or at colder temps yet though.
Sewing isn't something that I am able to do now. It was a big enough pain sewing the underquilt. Had to go to my aunt's house and hour away and have her do it for me. I don't really want to ask her to do any more. Now that I think about it, I am only ruling out poncho liners because they got cold around 60 degrees but I wasn't wearing thermals. Does anyone have any experience of how warm they might be with a set of Patagonia Cap 2 thermals? Or how low with the Patagonia's get me by themselves? I haven't bought them yet so I can't test them myself. Again, I appreciate the replys and help.
I hated my Slumberjack Superguide 30. I was cold when it got to 45. You could always see if someone would make you a quilt. I might consider making one for you. But, I have never made a quilt.
