Looking to get away from work and head up to the PA grand canyon. I'm planning to leave friday and finish up sometime sunday. I figured this would be a good warm up hike for this hiking season and im feeling a bit out of shape and dont think i can pull a 20 mile day this early in the season, so i plan on taking it easy and take in the sites.

It would be cool to have a fellow HF'er or more to come along.

I will have to check with my social director but I might be able to make it work out. Were you going to hike NOBO or SOBO? I ask because I hiked it solo three years ago SOBO. I'm not up for really long days yet either, but I think I could hike it in two (16 mile) days hanging on the north side of Bradly Whales again, would this work for you?
Peace,

Sounds good to me Gris, i was planning on doing it nobo if i was solo, but im up for anything. were you planning on doing 1 or 2 nights, i usually like to do a minimum of 2 so it feels a little more worth the drive up there. ive never hiked this trail before so it should be a good time, i have heard good things.

If I can go I can only get away for one night (sorry). It was a great trail and I would like to hike it NOBO as well.

If you're able to go i have a plan that will work out. My cousin may be coming as well, we will probably start off friday afternoon and head north and walk to the MST connector trail. We will camp there for the night, my cousin and I can check out the falls and what not to keep us plenty busy. If you can get to the trail head sometime saturday morning and meet us at the connector trail we can walk the rest of the way together. Not to shabby of a plan if i say so, let me know if it sounds good to you.

Perrito and I did the Grand Canyon last October. He has a lot of good info in the planning thread:

Sorry yooz85 my ego was writing checks that my body and calender can't cash. You came up with a great plan I just can't make it work on my end. I hope you all have a great time and hope to see you and the others down the trail in the future.
Peace,

Have this scribbled on the calendar. Will see what comes up in the next few weeks and will let you know for sure what my plans are.

Be nice to take it in again. Have hiked it several times but its always just a bit different depending on the season etc. I am about 45 min away - live and work in Potter Co to the west. So an easy drive over on Friday to meet up with you.

well seems like my plans have to change just a bit, my lovely fiance is dropping me off thursday. so it seems i have to extend my trip a bit, i figured i would start at the black forest trail head and proceed to the algerine trail which connect to the WRT via the long branch trail. but as im reading the long branch trail may be a bit hard to follow. anyone have any experience with this route let me know!

Try browsing these pages. They are by the same guy but his migration from one to the other seems to have never been completed.

I am hoping there will be an update to this thread or a trip report. I am doing the West Rim Trail NOBO the first week of June and it would be nice to see how current conditions are.

Thanks to Mr Perrito and Mr SilvrSurfer for the info links on the WRT including thier excellent thread from when they did this trail last fall.

Now where exactly is this Sunset Ice Cream joint? :D

The ice cream is at the entrance to the northern parking area. There is also a pub there where you can get your post-hike burger and beer. Forest Rd. & Rt. 6, I think.

Awesome. Thanks again Mr Perrito.

My plan is to park at the NOBO trailhead, get the shuttle from Pine Creek Outfitters to the southern terminus and hike in 4 miles or so to the Bohen trail to camp for night one. Then hike to the Bradley Wales Picinic area and set camp just past the BWPA for night two. And I can either take in a 3rd night at the Barbor Rock area or hike out to the Northern Terminus and to my car & Ice Cream.

Very excited for this trip.

I will try to post a report later, but i will tell you that i didnt see good options for hanging by the bohen trail i went up out of the hollow and found a good clear area along the trail.
