Anyone up for a hang Memorial day weekend, May 25,26,27? Maybe a 501 hang? Any other suggestions? Just putting it out there, not sure if it's a bad weekend because of the holiday.

I think I'm free that weekend, now I just have to check to see if the Mrs. thinks I'm free as well.
Too early for thru-hikers? I'm thinking I bring the grill and we do hamburgers and hot dogs. As well as anything else.

I might be in the area, but I think I may get the whole family out backpacking. I'm thinking of the campsite just west (south on the AT) from the William Penn shelter (the next one south on the AT). The boys will be hanging and the women ground dwelling if it works out. When do you expect to be at 501? We might start and end there.

When will everyone be there? Dan and I might be by - I'd like to fill in the section from Swatara Gap to 501 on the AT.

We'll be there at least sat/sun, I might stay till monday, not sure about biggcarl. Also if Syracuse makes it to the NCAA Lacrosse final game, I'll jet up to Philly monday afternoon.

I'm in the process of moving to Albany...I'll be there tomorrow. I start work on Monday and would like a break after my first week. Would like to do a light backpacking trip, maybe 5-6 miles a day...I dont know what the 501 is or the area at all.
Any interest?
I'm going to post in a separate thread as well.

Save a couple of trees for me. I'll be coming in early Sunday evening- I get off work in the city at 4:30. Hope to hike on Monday. I'll bring pies for Sunday pm dinner if it makes any of you guys stick around:lol::boggle:
And yes Jolly Green lots of tweaking with equipment. I'll bring it all! I'll check with G and maybe that is a way for Bob to get back out-

Well I'm working in Albany for the summer. Trying to find a backpacking trip for the long weekend, but a car hang will have to do, as its all I can find!

From Albany I would guess you're looking st about a three hour ride. Pm the jerseybears I know they are going to be in the Catskills this weekend. Much much closer for ya. However everyone is always welcome at the 501. As long as you remember what happens there stays there.

I'll be there for a night. Wife has to work, so I'm getting out for 2 weekends in a row :D. I'll bring some charcoal for grill. I'll be there midday on Sat through midday on sunday. See everyone there!

I found a nice campground in the catskills so instead of backpacking may just camp and do day hikes. My hammock should keep me dry

Google directions to the cabelas in hamburg PA then follow this.
Follow 78 west until the Pine Grove exit. (Which is somewhere between exit 13 and 20, I never remember exactly). Off the exit turn right. You'll just follow the road, first farmland, then it turns very wooded and very uphill. Near the top you'll see a parking lot on your right. At the end you come to first there is an AT sign. Park at the other end. There a blue blazed trail that takes you to the shelter. At the shelter turn left and we camp about a hundred feet up the AT.

Happy camping at 501 all !
Have fun hopping on the rocks on the trail. Hiking in and out is rocky (april2013 ).
Bob O is with his family.
My husband and I are still waiting for the rain to stop in the Catskills for some hang time together.
( Of course when you camp in the Catskills you get use to rain. That is one reason why NYC has Catskill Mts water. )
Looking forward to hiking the AT between Port Clinton and Lehigh Gap some time in the future.
40 miles that can be divided into 2,3 or 4 day hikes.
