Hi guys, Iīve made a video of my first time hanging my new Woodsman X DL. Itīs also my third night ever in a hammock, still trying out different setups of sleeping pads. The video is perhaps a bit longish but I also wanted to promote the use of hammocks by choosing a camp site that would be impossible to use a tent in and show it off a bit.

Any comments and feedback is welcome, especially those bits and pieces of equipment that I couldnīt figure out the english words for. Oh, I also hope itīs ok to post this kind of video in this forum, let me know if it should have been placed elsewhere.

Nice review. Sounds like you said you cut the pad in half? Not sure I understand your reasoning for that.

Thanks. The cutting in half test was to take one half, turn it 90 degrees and place that up under the back/shoulder area thus getting a broader coverage compared to the normal width of the pad. Imagine the two pieces forming the letter T. That shortens the combined length of the area that the pad covers and I think I noticed that my heels (not feet as I said in the video) felt a bit cold when I laid on my back and stretched out completely. This was due to the fact that the pad simply didnīt extend that far down in this configuration.

I tend to sleep on my side and my body position ends up a bit curled up compared to if you lie flat on your back. As I mentioned Iīm just starting with hammocks and do a bit of testing to figure out what works best for me. :) I think my next run will be with my Exped Synmat 7 LW (extra Long and Wide) and possibly putting the half-pad under the back. Carrying one half pad along with the Synmat doesnīt feel that bad since it also can double as something to sit on or have as a floor to stand on when changing clothes or taking of the shoes etc.

Cheers!

Thank you. My next outing will probably be with my oldest son. Weīll try and get our IKEA hammock set up in bunk style. Hopefully itīll end up with his first night in a hammock. :)

I couldn't tell from the video, does the bugnet have extra material where it zips into the foot of area, or is it just a regular, symmetrical piece of fabric? Same goes for the hammock fabric I guess, I know the head side has an asym cut to it but what about the foot side?

I'll get back with some shots of that. To me everything looks symmetrical but I'll spread those areas out on the floor and see.

The hammock is not Asym. The bug net is cut to cover the footbox. You can still sleep feet left but it's just without the foot box on that side.. Hope this helps.

A little, I was asking if the hammock body and bugnet are just two symmetrical, rectangular pieces of fabric or if there is extra bugnet/hammock material at the foot area to allow more room when the footbox is deployed. Hopefully that clears things up a bit, looking back I can see my original question wasn't quite as clear.

The footbox isnīt really made of extra fabric á the WBBB. The cord sort of makes a fold in the fabric when you tighten it. The bugnet should work fine regardless of the level of tensioning in the footbox cord, havenīt tried it though. I have not disassembled the hammock (and donīt intend to) but Iīll try a get some video showing what happens with the cord. Too tired tonight after a gruelling judo workout but will hopefully make it tomorrow.

Thanks Tord, I'm mainly curious about if when the cord is not attached if there is a bunch of extra floppy fabric not being used or if there is no extra fabric how big the footbox that is created is. Seems to me that if there is no extra fabric and its just a typical gathered end hammock when the cord is not used then this concept could be employed with any hammock provided there was a reinforced tieout on the side to attach the cord to.

Right, I hope this video answers the questions. Appologies for the "wild" camera action :)

That helped immensely, thank you Tord! I'm always a bit taken back by the extreme generosity on these online forums/communities. It doesn't matter that I'm on the other side of the world and you've never met me, I had a question and not only did you answer it, you took the time out of your busy day to make a whole video outlining my exact questions. Thanks again!

And here's me trying to give back a little bit...I got in contact with Mat over at UKHammocks to see about how neccessary the extra net fabric is in regards to strain on the hammock and net and this was his response-

Morning buddy,

The cut of the net is simple tapered so that when your inside there is no real need to use tie outs.-

I figured I'd let you know as in your video you expressed concern about the possbility of things ripping when using the bugnet without the cord attached and from Mat's response I don't think that should be an issue at all. In fact from the sounds of it I think one could take any hammock with an attached bugnet and utilize the same corded footbed system without fear of extra strain being put on the fabric and causing any kind of failure. Just thought I'd pass the info along to help put your mind at ease about the durability :D
