Donna here...

Reservations have been made at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA for all 6 sites in the Organized Group Camping Area. The dates are April 25th-27th 2014.

The Furnace Stack Pavilion as been reserved for the entire day Saturday April 26th.

I have contacted CM Pig Out for the pig roast. They did a great job this year!

A reminder for those interested...there is a Family Campground just up the road. There is a bath house with showers, and some sites have electricity. Pets are allowed on designated sites, but are not allowed in the Group Camping Area. They are allowed at the Pavilion. Service dogs are allowed anywhere in the park.

Looking forward to another great hang!!

Just put the 2014 MAHHA on the calendar! Now that I am retired, I should be able to make this one!

I had to bail on the NEHHA this weekend to go and make some doctors richer, but hopefully will still be around for the MAHHA next year!

We just had our Troop planning meeting the other night and now I have a predicament. The boys tentatively scheduled a Hammock Campout the same weekend as the Spring MAHHA. First I'm flattered that they wanna hammock camp. I wasn't even paying attention when they did this. But I love coming to the Spring MAHHA this year. I was wondering if it would be appropriate to bring the boys to the MAHHA? It would probably be around 12-18 boys and some may still be ground dwellers.

Donna here...Although the scouts would be very welcome by our group...both hangers...& want-a-be hangers:)....after discussing this with some of the MAHHA planners...we have determined that this wouldn't be a wise idea for several reasons.

-The MAHHA's are a Hammock forums function. If we included one scout troop, then more would come. In past years, there have been several scout leaders that couldn't attend the MAHHA because of a scout camping conflict.

-The number of attendees to the spring MAHHA has increased substantially each year it has been at Pine Grove. There is a number limit the park has for the group sites. We are up there in numbers, but have room to grow. If scout troops started attending, those numbers would sky rocket quickly and push us over the limit.

-The fall MAHHA has had to find another location because of growth of attendees. We have a great place for the Spring MAHHA with all the trees, the pavilion and bathroom close by, and a family campground just up the road. We don't want to jeopardize the continued use of these facilities by out-growing our welcome.

-With Pine Grove, the sites are reserved for the "Hammock Forums MAHHA".

-Parking is a big issue for us. We have limited parking available for our group. We have all the sites reserved for 2014, so we don't need to save any parking places for anyone outside our group. Point of fact...the last three years, one or more sites have been reserved by the boy scouts, and with their vehicles, and the amount of people in the area...the parking and use conditions were overcrowded. Reserving the entire group area eliminates the over-use, especially the parking, when scouts are also in this area.

I hope you understand the reasons behind this decision.

Additional note...Tim's suggestion...Caledonia State Park has a group camping area. If you choose to have the scout camp-out down there...maybe you, as a HF member, can get away Saturday afternoon for the dinner and raffle...would be great to see you again!:)

A possible alternative would be to camp down the road at Caledonia State Park. Our troop normally camps there when we go on our Gettysburg hikes. Then you could stop by for a visit since it's less than 20 miles away.

I understand your points completely. I like the suggestion of Caledonia State Park. Also looks like Camp Tuckahoe is nearby as well. We've camped there before. I think we can make this work. :)

Now to figure out Fall MAHHA, same weekend as district camporee.

Hey, somewhat new to the forums and just discovered you and saw your post about your 2014 spring trip. I'd like to join you for that one as I am discovering the joys of hammock camping. How do I go about joining you for the trip? Always looking to meet new hammock campers. And always looking for a reason to get out and hang.
Oh, btw, what is MAHHA?

Welcome to the forums everyone is welcome to join the Mid Atlantic Hammock Hangers Association group hangs. For the spring 2014 hang keep an eye on this section of the forums for when a sign up sheet is posted (it will be an active thread). My first MAHHA was last spring and it was awesome. I hiked in the AT to the hang and met so many great people (and I think I met way less than half of the attendees).

Hope to see you next spring,

And it seems the Scouts are requesting(demanding) my attendance and expertise. They have decided they want to have a Hammock Campout. At least I will be in a hammock that weekend. Now that we've got the holidays out of the way, its the time of year when I start thinking about Name Tag backgrounds. The 2012 background was a Candle Lantern in the dark, 2013 was the Pine Grove Furnace behind a CF Tarp, for 2014 I had a Rustic Camp Fire image in mind. How does this grab you?

There will be a raffle where we request at least 1 ticket be purchased per attender. The monies collected will cover the cost for the Group Camping area, pavilion and the pig roast. Peter_pan will post, on the planning thread, specifics about the raffle.

Hope to see you out there. I'll see what I can answer since Donna is out. You will need to wait for the spreadsheet so your name tag can be made. The hang is sponsored entirely by the selling of raffle tickets. Lots of raffle item are donated by our wonderful cottage vendors and regular members. Last year we were able to pay for the camp sites and the pig for dinner, donate to Hammock Forums, and donate to Pine Grove Furnace state park. The spread sheet is also used for signing up for food or other items for the Saturday dinner. There is at least one thread started about hike in plans.

Edit: Donna beat me to it.
