I had a great visit with Marty and company, as usual.
Wilderness Logics will be starting a line of rectangular tarps with 10', 11' and 12' ridge lines.
The lower edge of each side will have 4 stake out points with a cat cut between ea stake out.
There will be 2 pull outs per side.
Marty said that he has had several requests for rectangular tarps so he decided to put one on the drawing board.
The proto was being sewn while I was there and so all I got to see was the drawings.

I think the additional corner coverage will add a good amount of storm coverage.
It may lend it's corners to be tied back to the pull outs and staked in a traditional hex mode.
From that hex mode the corners can be staked inward, forming a semi-door-like wings to help fend off blowing rain or wind.

My work schedule will make it impossible to get back over to help try out different set ups but I'll keep ya posted on further developments.
Bottom line is...Cool looking design and I want one!

I had a blast this afternoon...Marty came over about 5:00ish and had the proto of the new 10x10 tarp. I don't know the weight, we where just playing and having fun with it.

This 1st tarp had 3 stake out points with minimal cat cut between them. They worked well.
We played around with several ideas and the master is taking some of them to the drawing board and they will be tested soon.

This is a really cool tarp. When pitched it provided 60ish sq.ft. of coverage.
That's a lot of room to do stuff and more space to lay gear than my hex tarps.
The 1st thing came to mind was that the additional room may provide a little more coverage for hammocks with spreader bars like my LO with the Slowhike mod.(spreader bar at the head end). And perhaps bridge hammocks?

Marty and I sat under it for about an hour, enjoying the shade and "what if-ing". Even in this proto, the quality workmanship and perfectly accurate stitching is world class!

After a few tweaks and a little more testing this will be an awesome configuration for a tarp and I'm definitely going to buy one. This may be the closest thing to an all around tarp that I have ever used.

The extra usable room for lolly gagging will allow 5 or 6 folks to sit around and plan the next days agenda. 2 hammocks could fit easily under this tarp if the trees would allow. Who knew a square tarp would be so cool?

I guess it will be a couple of days before it hits production.

Our of curiosity, would you prefer 3 or 4 stake out points per side?

I would go with 4. But where would the 4th one go?
It would give me a little more confidence when cought in a nasty storm.

prob the current middle would go away and have a stake out directly below each of the side pull outs. so that the tarp could be staked out like a hex with short doors. or as a square.

I'm thinking about having pole pockets at the 2 inboard stake outs for 2internal pole mods.
Then this tarp would be a quonset hut / party tarp :cool::cool:

I used to own, a OES,,10' x 12' square tarp of grey silnylon,,had 5 tie outs on the sides total of each side, and 2 panel pull tie outs on each side, and of course the 2 RL tie outs (one on each end as it was 12' long RL)...worked perfect if you staked the center 3 of the 5 side tie outs, and then you could have almost perfectly closed doors, especially with a gatherend end hammock. It was perfectly square also, not cat cut. Wished more than once, I had never gotten rid of that tarp as you could even use it for car camping over your pic nic table or in front of your hang spot for hanging with telescopic standing poles and tie outs off the poles for cooking in bad weather..such a versatile tarp being square. I have been seriously thinking of getting hold of Marty to make me one just like I am describing as its easer to make than cat cut and more versatile in my book. I won't order another tarp off OES for various reasons, but it was a well made tarp, and Marty should consider one offered like I am describing.

Sounds cool Acer. After seeing how big his 10x10 is, a 12x10 would be Wicked big.
That would be the ultimate "gang" tarp.

Thank you WL

I received my tarp yesterday. :)
I got a green one with a 11' rl and panel pulls. The tarp in its stuff sack only weighs 21oz wich is really good since its such a big tarp. As always, the quality of the work that went into this tarp is amazing. I won't be able to get it set up until Monday or Tuesday and as soon as I do I will get pictures posted of it.

I will get the pics of the tarp with a rr tomorrow

I tried to sleep in the RR outside under the tarp but it was too loud outside so I had to move it inside. The RR fits great under the tarp and I will get it back up in the next couple of days for the pics.

Thank you for posting these pictures.

I bought my wife a RidgeRunner and she slept overnight this past weekend for the 1st time. The second night were camping a nasty thunderstorm blew in and we all bailed to grandma and granddad's camper. We did not want Grandma and granddad to have to deal with kids freaking in the storm. We had the larger of the Sportsman guide tarp over it and it rained through it during an afternoon shower the night before. It rained a ton Sunday night. It was one of the most impressive Tstorms I have ever seen.

We are still debating this versus the Cloudburst. Any insights now that you have used it some?

I had a Cloudburst and I perfer the Bullfrog. I just perfer the cuts on the BF and think it makes for a much more versatile tarp.
