Me and rice gravy took a little canoe trip down Cedar Creek, then the Congaree river in the Congaree National Park. We were both very happy to have hammocks, pitching a tent in that mud and muck left from the receding water would have been horrible! It was all flooded only a couple days before, and was still pretty high, thought I'd share a pic or two!

Those hardwood swamps have their own special beauty. Is the Congaree a blackwater river under low flow conditions?

Looks like a great trip, and definitely makes you appreciate your hammock!

Brings back fond memories of canoe camping trips with Dad. My wife and I have been once, for an over-nighter. I'm working up to a longer trip...

A glow stick hung from a tree is how I find camp ;-)

I was at the Congaree Swamp Natl Park campsite last Thursday night. I cleaned up campsite #5, which someone had trashed, and hung my hammock there. Found some loose change, a dozen wire stakes, and a several feet of cord. Although the water was high, the mosquitoes were not. It was a great weekend to be on the river! Next time I'll bring a suitable vessel.

Boy, does that place look exotic and hospitable (atleast this time of the year). Cool pics!
