Bull Frog vs Old Man Winter

So I am down to these 2 Tarps and the price is virtually the same for how I want them and the weight is about the same with mods.

Bull Frog 10' ridgeline (19 oz) with Panel Pulls and Outside Pole Mod and Tarp Skins

OMW 11' ridgeline (19 oz) with Tri Loops and Center Pole Mod and Tarp Skins

Pros and Cons to each setup? Has anyone used the Outside Pole Mod in the rain it looks as if it could cause water to sit on the top with the way they are pulled up? This is based on pictures alone. Though I am getting closer to pulling the trigger I want a one and done tarp.

Flatline you seem to have the inside scoop and I am guessing you have used both so any words or advice would be much appreciated.

With the OMW you will need to seam seal the side pulls.

If pitched tight and then adding the spreader poles, rain will drip in where the spreader poles make contact with the ridge.

You can either seam seal the ridge or not use the spreader poles in a deluge.

I have had the OMW deployed every day for just about 4 months, only in the serious downpours was there an issue. The 6-8 inches per hour ki d of storm. Regular rain, no worries.

Thanks, I don't mind seam selling the pull and ridge that was gonna be done either way. Also when you say spreader poles are you talking about the outside pole mod or center pole mod with your OMW?

Outside.

When you rig in A frame, the 2 outside poles will pull the edges away but in so doing they also come in contact with the ridge.

It's fine in light to moderate rain but in heavier rain, you can get drips.
Several ways to address it, seam seal, dont't use the spreader poles in heavy rain, throw a rain coat over your ridgeline or tie a piece of cordage to lift the pole off the tarp.

One nifty solution I saw at the winter hang was to rig the poles horizontally, that is parallel to the long edge of the tarp and then stake them out with a hiking staff/pole.

Like I said, more than 100 days deployed, lots of heavy rain in the northeast, only 1 or maybe 2 days where this was a concern.

Fwiw, I haven't bothered seam sealing anything yet.

My personal thoughts and uses are just my opinion and experience.
All the WL gear is well thought out and of superior workmanship and quality. nuff-o-dat stuff.

I use a CRL with all my tarps, tarp over the CRL, soft shackle prussic to tension the tarp's ridge line, Dutch flyz on each end to tension the CRL and tarp skins.

I currently own and use a Tad Pole and OMW and have used the proto of the then "New Tarp". I have just placed an order for my custom Bullfrog.

Until now I have used the TP and OMW equally. And like them both the same. They are like tools and have similar but different functions.
I like the open breeziness yet very ample coverage of the TP.
I also like the cavernous space provided by the OMW (mine has a center pole mod, for now)
I was about to order a Big Daddy (to complete my 3rd hammock setup) when Marty came out with Bullfrog. I twisted his arm to let me play with/test it in my backyard.
I immediately knew that (with a few tweaks) I wanted the Bullfrog.
The Bullfrog seem to me to be the best of both worlds.

My Bullfrog will have 4 pole pockets for 2 internal poles. No panel pulls. 11' ridge and standard stake out loops.
I will convert my OMW to the 2 ext pole mod and my TP will stay as is.
That will give me a ton of options and plenty of space to lounge around.

Having said all that...Personally if I had only one tarp, for me it would be the OMW because it can do it all.
