Hey all,

I am helping my troop plan a trip to Hocking Hills for October. We have reservation in the youth primitive site. Wondering best hiking from there, also other activities can do with them. Also, how is it for hanging?

Haha, hey Roger!

Looking at the hiking map for Hocking Hills (http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/Portals/parks/PDFs/parks/Maps/Hocking_Hills/hockinghillstrailmap.pdf), it doesn't look like the trail to the youth group camping area goes anywhere beyond SR374. If that is indeed the case, I'd suggest parking at Cedar Falls and hiking from there to Old Man's Cave and back (assuming 6 miles round trip isn't too far). You could take the Buckeye Trail in the gorge one way and the gorge overlook trail the other (http://parks.ohiodnr.gov/Portals/parks/PDFs/parks/Maps/Hocking_Hills/oldmanscavetrailmap.pdf). Both trails at Conkles Hollow are pretty cool, too, but that would require a farther drive. Looks like there's some rappelling near there, though, so that could be fun to do with the boys. Anyway, sounds like a fun trip! Good luck with the planning!

There is a bridle trail that runs through the group camp. Go south a bit and reach Oh 374 at Oh 56. Short road hike west on 56 to Ash cave. Go north from group camp to reach the supension bridge. Take stairs down to cedar falls and gorge trail to OMC or cross bridge to rim trail to old man's cave passing Rose lake. Distance from Ash cave to OMC is about 6 mi. Cedar falls to OMC 3 mi.

Be very careful with the group around the cliffs. Access to very dangerous drop offs is easy and are not offend marked very well. Just stay on the trail and all will be good.

There are are lots of trees to hang from in the youth group camp.
