Well after some testing with my AHE I love the view but in blowing rain and being such a long tarp compared to my hammock it is hard to get good coverage. I took the opportunity to work with Jared again over at Simply Light Designs and purchased one of his Winter Haven 4 door tarp but lots of modifications to it. Spent last week running my thoughts about what I wanted to do and pulled the trigger last Friday night. He got it knocked out and seam sealed over the weekend, and I have tracking for it so should have it in 2-3 days.

Being I sleep in a short 9' hammock with an 88" ridgeline I didn't need a super long tarp. After working with Jared he constructed a Winter Haven with my requests and some of his ideas implemented. Here is what I ended up with:

-9' Winter Haven
-Cat Cuts on all the edges - This will be mostly a 3 season tarp so I wanted to shed what I could.
-Loc Lines on the 4 corners for keeping the doors closed up nice and tight
-3/4" D-Rings instead of 1/2" D-Rings on the middle 2 ground guy points
-Modified Center Pull Outs as I wanted to be able to do an outside pole mod like what Wilderness Logics offers and after finding some thread and talking with Jared he also sells Tent setups and made me a set of poles to hold the tarp out. We went with 1" webbing on the pull outs

We ended up with a 4 door tarp from 1.4 Sil that weighs 20 oz with stuff sack and seam sealed and an extra 7 oz for the poles and the carry sack.

I'll update with some pictures later in the week once it arrives but if it is anything like everything else I have purchased I'm sure it will be top notch quality.

Got it today, super nicely built and I really like the size. I setup just the tarp as it is 100 outside so i wont be hanging outside till it cools down. Ill post some pictures in a bit.

Other than I'm waiting on my Ti Shepards from Z Packs to arrive I had to improvise with some heavy tent stakes we had laying around. Build is perfect and so much useable room inside it. Can't wait it will be cooling down this weekend and I will be spending some time in it.

Great looking setup. I've got one of his Trail Haven 11's with the side pull outs and I use a trekking pole and a length of line to form a V. I really like that top pull out method your using. May have to try it out. Enjoy your new tarp :)

Definitely going to enjoy this one, best part is my MG Snake Skins from my other tarp fit perfectly though a bit of overlap. I love how Jared is will to go above and beyond to build what one is looking for. He didn't even offer a 9' version until I asked if it was even possible within an hour he had the option added to the site.

Gonna have to meet him in person some time even if I have to drive to Indy.

looks super sweet. how much does it weight all together? and how much of that is the poles?

20 without the poles, poles add 7 oz that is including the stuff sacks for the tarp and poles.

Based on your endorsement and pics, I just ordered a 12' one with cat cuts and pole mod. Let it snow! I'll post pics once I get it.

Nice, had mine out on a trip last night. A bit of rain this morning and I was as dry as could be. Let us know how it looks, I bet it arrives in no time. :scared:

I am not understanding this, it looks like you have an AHE clone with a 9ft ridgeline, AHE offers the OMW in 10' and 12'. Was the 10' difficult to "get coverage" on a 9' hammock? It would have been 6" on either end, no?

The tarp looks good, and with the doors, will offer plenty of weather protection, just curious what you meant by hard to get good coverage?

9' hammock has an 88" ridgeline so a 10' tarp has 16" on each end the 11' Shangri La I had has 22" on each end. The longer the tarp the higher it had to be hung to clear the suspension lines.

My new tarp allows about 10" on each end which provides ample coverage and allows the tarp to be hung low enough I can seal it to the ground if I wanted without being against the side of the hammock.

You're probably thinking of Wilderness logics who sells the OMW. With a 9 foot hammock he is probably using a SRL, which probably makes the length closer to 8ft. So with a longer tarp he would have to raise the tarp higher so the hammock suspension doesnt rub.

Actually closer to 7', 88" to be exact after 2 weeks of up and down adjustments.

I went with 12' on mine so there'd be plenty of room for the disco ball. And you're right. Jared is a great guy to deal with.

 Does the Disco ball help keep the bears away?

Now I get it....nice and tight, low to the ground, nice winter setup.
Congrats.
