Planning on hiking the full 23 mile MRT/NCT loop. The fall colors should be spectacular!

Taking that Friday off, hope to hit the trail by 10-11am on 10/11/13.

Friday Start - AM - Hike aprox 9 miles from Upper River to Eddington Creek. (NCT side)

Saturday - aprox 11 miles from Edd. Creek to stealth spot on the river south of Cottage Rd.

Sunday - Hike out a few miles.

Roughly 23 miles total.

I'm thinking about doing something similar mid Dec. Good luck and remember pictures or it didn't happen!

Solid maybe. Have to check with the kids as I'll be camping this weekend and the weekend of Oct 18 also.

After Deep Lake my mind is screaming "GO.GO.GO." After wandering around the dunes today my body says it ain't gonna happen... yet.

Jealous as I love this loop! But I'll have to opt to continue my more leisurely outdoor adventures elsewhere. I wouldn't arrive to hike until very late Friday night. Have a blast!!

That's one of my favorite loop hikes in Michigan. Was up there this past April and camped in the pines on the NE side of the creek. Wish I could make it, but I'll be on Mackinac Island that weekend.....Nothing quite like the smell of horses and fudge :)

I'm being easily swayed. You guys will have quite the climb to finish your trip Sunday, if I remember correctly.

I don't remember who you are, but I'd encourage you to give at least part of this loop (Manistee River Trail is much easier) a try unless you are truly out of shape.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I wish I could take Friday off. I would be up there with ya if I could.

Not completely out of shape but 20+ years as a smoker has taken its toll. Also not real confident I have all the necessary gear.

Wish I saw this sooner, planning my first overnighter at nordhouse for that saturday. got my hammock, pack, tarp, misc gear...and just waiting for paul to finish up my quilts.

I have camped up there at Northern exposure and did some MT bike runs from dilling rd to marilla...pretty nice stuff. Acutally them rides in the NCT is what got me wanting to pursue some backpacking trips to see more of it and at a slower pace. Cant wait to get up there myself. I even have relatives in Kaleva for taxi If I dont want to do a loop.

Good choice, it's probably best you get all the kinks worked out on a 2 mile hike rather than a 20+ mile hike.

After a quick check the Marilla Trailhead is open, couldn't pay anyone to close the gate. LOL! But Seaton Creek is closed.

Freon~ Nordhouse is open

Since I've still got some "free" time, and would be spending the money to drive across the state, I'm considering heading over a few days early to spend some time at Nordhouse, then meeting up on Friday to do the MRT loop.

Edit: Oops, I forgot I've got scout meetings scheduled for that Thursday... looks like I'll probably be meeting up for the MRT on Friday, then heading over to Nordhouse after.

Are hunters going to be a problem while hiking? At least in bow season they don't shoot anything that moves.

not worried about bow season... i wouldn't go hiking Nov. 15th without head to toe blaze orange.

I plan on heading up that way Friday after work, should hit red bridge by 5. Probobly put three to four miles down and camp for the night, then Saturday get one of those awesome MRT sites! Maybe we'll run into you, love the MRT!
