ONe thing I was wondering was what options were available should you find yourself in a treeless area. I've seen all kinds of hammock hangers and then I saw this http://youtu.be/704HL2OKBJ4 and wondered if a method from the 1800s would work with modern hammocks?

Has anyone tried anything like this?

As long as you have cordage and adequate stakes, I see no reason you couldn't. I've seeing many members do similar set ups. I can't remember which member it was but he did this with two crutches once. The thing is, to find branches big enough to do this, there's has to trees in the area that can be at least one of the anchor points.

Even half a doz. small tree's ,( 2" dia. ), making two tripods would work. A little lashing skill necessary.
