Several people have asked about us offering silnylon, so I wanted to let everyone know that it's now available on the site! We currently have 4 colors, all 1st quality: OD, black, foliage green, and charcoal gray. First round will ship out Monday the 16th.

Also a big thanks to everyone that has ordered since we started! Remember that HF members get a discount on all orders. Just use HFmember5% :shades:

Hi! can we expect international shipping in the near future?

Hey there! I'm going to work on that in the next couple days. The only hold up is the system I currently use makes it difficult, but not impossible, to do international shipping. Sweden is officially on the list though.

Tempting....So what's the difference between this stuff at 20D and something like the DIY Gear Supply silnylon that's 30D?

Tempting....So what's the difference between this stuff at 20D and something like the DIY Gear Supply silnylon that's 30D?

Good question. I asked it myself because I had only seen 30D before. In general this is what I know in terms of fabric manufacturing. Denier is a fabric term that is defined as the weight in grams of 9000 meters of a particular yarn/thread. So 9000 m of 20D and 30D are 20 grams and 30 grams, respectively. Since both varieties of Sil are the same weight per unit area (1.1 oz/sq yd), the 20D should have roughly 50% more thread than the 30D. End result is the 20D should be a higher strength fabric (tenacity in fabric terminology).

I think there's a new thread injector waiting for me under the tree, and plan on making several purchases in the very near future.

That said, are there any plans to expand your selection to include .7 oz/sqyd Ultralight Insect Netting? Often referred to as "No-see-um" bug netting.

Hey Dave, I don't know for certain, but I'll get the info from the manufacturer and let you know.

I can tell you that I went through a couple iterations to get the coating quality to match another product that I use for our Big-Sil tarps with Appalachian Hammock. We've had great results with that fabric, so I wanted to match that coating quality and consistency.

Not in the immediate future, but it's possible. I'd like to focus on rounding out the selection of ripstop for now, but I'll let you know if things change.

If I can keep getting deals on fabric , my plan is too have the boys in my troop all make their own hammock setups. And this website is going to help me do it.

Thanks for all your orders guys. I was reorganizing some things on the site last night which caused things to shuffle around a bit. Sil now has its own section as well as breathable being broken into calendered/uncalendered so you don't have to hunt so much.

Let me know if you need anything else. Looking forward to some pics of your work when you're done!!!!

I wanted to give a little more info on the 20D vs 30D topic. In general, the 20D fabric will be a tighter weave due to the increased thread density and have a softer feel to the touch. I'm also guessing that a 20D calendered fabric will provide superior downproofing compared to an equivalent 30D. I haven't tested that yet though, so for now it's just a guess. However, I'll make a couple down pillows with some samples and report back.

One other note on the feel. We recently switched to a 20D 1.1 oz inner layer on the Appalachian Hammock DLC where we were previously using 30D. I can attest that the new fabric is much softer to the touch and feels nicer on the skin. As much as you can be, I'm in love with that fabric :)

Hey Dave this silnylon was lab tested to a HH of 1100 mm. I've also done some homemade stress tests as a check and haven't been able to make it leak yet.

Mrprez

It seems to have a mat finish to the color and is soft to the touch. At first, I thought it was just regular ripstop, but it passes the breath test. It is still slippery as all get out!

BB did you get your order today? You should've gotten it yesterday to be honest. It's 2-3 day priority mail and it was shipped Tuesday. Especially middle of the country. Im gonna check on that to see what the deal is. Sorry about the wait. Hope it's worth it though :)
