It's only mid-Jan and I'm getting the bug. Anybody planning a spring hang out here on the east coast ?

Sorry to see there hasn't been much response to this. I'd be interested if there was a group hang. I'd suggest that granite lake might make a good option.

Where is Granite Lake ? Is that just off the 101 out by Mt. Uniacke ? Been out there before I take it ?

Just east of soldiers lake. And south of the airport

Me and a buddy went out there 2 years ago and set up a lean to. Medium hike with at least one river xing. Pretty lake, can't say if it is good for fishing or swimming but I know my buddy took the scouts there last year

Ok, I see it on the map now. Sounds good. How about some time in the future when the snow is gone for the most part and the nights are at least 0 C or above. I only have a 3/4 underquilt at this point.

I've got a buddy who is just getting in hammocking and I'm sure he would be in as well. This is a pic of us out in Waverley last Sept and it was his first attempt at rigging his gear, lol.

Sounds like it could work. I don't have a UQ yet but I'm experimenting with converting a SB to make one. I have a buddy that should be up for a trip also.

I'd be up for a hang, Snow's almost gone, woods are calling in NS! Soldier lake area has lots of great hidden lakes in behind the Airport 10 min from the city.

Well, I've got my Hennessy up for sale right now. Will take the proceeds and order the XLC. I may sell one of my others off as well.

Get out there before the black flies arrive. ;) As an ex-Nova Scotian, iirc, the "season" should start in about 6 weeks with first blood being drawn approx. 33 seconds after the first little blood sucker tastes fresh air...lol

Suggest the Valley area as well. Some purty down that way. :)

Yes, that is an option too. Any of you been out to Cape Split for a night ?

You guys interested in a canoe trip with the EGL in Algonquin?

Cape split looks good, I haven't done it. If I do that I'll have to convince the wife to come, take the motorcycle, or car pool.

How is it? Everything you hoped

It's pretty nice but not perfect.

I used it once already on an overnight in one of Keji's backounty sites two weeks ago.

I like the material, very nice, good construction. I got the double layer so in summer I can just stuff a wool blanket in there and not use an under quilt. Intergrated ridgeline thats nice. No included ridgeline ditty bag, I thought that was a bit cheap of WB. Hennessy throws those in no charge. The ONLY thing about that hammock that annoys me is that its a single tab zipper. Due to the construction and the ability to remove the netting completely it had to be single pull so when you climb in you zipp it open 3/4 then you have to reach waaayyy down to grap the zipper. I know not huge but annoying esp since a had a double pull on the Hennessy. I got mine with the webbing suspension to try it out. They didnt include biners !! A $200 hammock and they couldnt throw in biners, wow. The shelf system is nice I will say. Toss your phone, light, book, etc up there. I guess thats how they justify not including the ditty bag ??

I made a quick video of the trip. If you go in YouTube and search Scanman67 and Kejimkujik you will find it. You can see the setup a bit in the video. My tarp was jacked up, I forgot my regular ridgeline and had to rig it with paracord.

Overall yes I do like it. No regrets. I just think they cheaped out a bit on the extras esp when we are talking about a $200 hammock.

Man things get hectic fast. Spent the weekend on the Marty Legere search and rescue. Purchased a cabin on the south shore off Nova Scotia. Mosquitos are coming out now. Suggest a weekend and I'll see what I can do. Worst comes to worst we could look at organizing a fall hang.
