I was wondering if theres any interest in another winter hang? I found a spot in deerfield, nh that is real nice. Its a very short, easy trail walk to site and theres plenty of parking and hanging room. Its privately owned land with hiking trails if interested.
Looking to do it in the next couple weeks but open to dates, whatever works for everyone.
The owner said hes open to camping any time but if theres enough interest I will double check with him before we finalize everything. I dont see him having any issues as long as we take care of the area.

Update: I'm going to go ahead and set the dates for the first weekend in February. (Jan 31 - Feb 2) If this doesn't work for most people please let me know and we can adjust but for now we'll stick with these dates.

Date - Jan 31 - Feb 2

Location - Great Brook Trail
Harvey Rd. Deerfield, nh (it is 0.6 miles down either side of harvey road look for kiosk sign)

Site details - site is primitive with no water, toilets, facilities, etc. There is no water source here but I can probably get the owner to bring out some 5 gallon jugs for us.

Food - up for suggestions. Do we want group, individual, etc? I like skys idea of doing some bushcraft style cooking over the fire.

Here is a map of the area. Go to page 14 for great brook trail

I actually just posted it to see if there was any interest, so dates are still open to whenever people can make it. Just figured itd be something somewhat local so everyone doesn't have to wait till spring! Haha
Its private land, plenty of room, super short walk to the site. It is primitive so no toilets or anything.

No problem.

Not sure if anyone wants to do any kind of group dinner or anything like that or if you just want to do every man for himself? i did like the tripod with water/coffee idea at the last hang so if anyone has some pots we could use for that we can put a tripod together. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

I know theres some snow out there from the last snow we got and with cold temps staying below freezing and possibly some more snow in the forcast we should actually have snow this hang.

===> Great! If this is a smaller hang, we could make it a little more "Bushcrafty", with regards to cooking over a fire, and making tripods and 'furniture' from trees.

Agreed! I like that idea. Although it seems very easy I have yet to lash a tripod together.

You may want to update the 1st post with more information. Directions, facilities, who's going, food prep, water/no water etc...

I was thinking about it but I'd only be able to stay one night and it's a 2 1/2 hour drive so I think I'll have to pass. Sounds like a nice spot. It's always nice to have permission. Is there water there?

I think Gil probably just hasn't seen the thread. You could pm him...

long drive for 1 night. but if you change your mind and want to come have fun let me know. it is a nice spot and i've only seen a small chunk of it. i haven't walked the trails yet. There is a beaver pond further down the trail but thats all. The owner of it offered to bring out some 5 gallon jugs with water from his house though.

i did shoot him a PM but haven't heard back.

I think im going to cancel this hang due to lack of interest. I may however head out for atleast one night myself so if there is anyone that wants to tag along let me know in a pm.

I am looking to do a couple of mile backpacking trip in. Just looking for a place. What do you guys think. It would be Saturday morning in and out Sunday.

atrane21
01-25-2014, 18:26
This place is a short hike in to the site. There is however a 3-4 mile long trail u could hike after setting up. The owner only owns part of the trail area and the others dont allow camping. If you really wanted to backpack in we could park on the far side and walk over to the site. Haha

I think I am also going to look for something a little closer. 2-3/4 hrs a stretch. Does anyone know of anything in the middle.

From Deerfield. Mondanock is probably the in between adventure. I won't have time to head over there though. Although from Maine, Deerfield is 1/3 2/3. Monadnock would be vice versa....but it is a great winter hike. And I understand you can just pay at the device at the gate to camp. Have not tried it yet though.

Pm me if I don't pop in when you reschedule...I will try to make at least one night. Kids, they have busy schedules...makes it difficult to sneak away.
