Nathan and I are planning on backpacking 2 ish miles into Franconia Brook Campsite for an overnight. We are going to bring our skis and try out the DIY pulk. Thinking we will meet at 10 am at the ranger station at Lincoln Woods trailhead. Supposed to snow both days. Fires are allowed, it sits along the Pemi for water.

If I can compress all my winter gear into my pack I may join u. No skis but I have snowshoes. A pulk would come in handy!!

Cool. Our pulks are kid sleds and PVC piping... Nothing special so we will see if they really work. We will bring our snow shoes too.

===> Dang! Would have loved to go, but I am moving one if the Skyettes back into college over the weekend. I just had to bail on the NJ Winter Hang, too! I have prepaid for a site there, so if anyone wants to go to the Jersey Hang, please go use my site! It's free!

Hope you have a great time! I love the Lincoln Area! I usually stay at Woodward's for a few days while running a golf tournament up there every year. Nice area. I also ins to hang at the Lost River Campground on Rte 112W, and stealth hang as well along the Pemi off Rte 175 sometimes.

Wish I could make this one! Another time!

That's a great area. I stayed at that campsite one night in September 2013 during one of my half pemi loop trips. Seems like a perfect winter overnight spot.

I'm out of town that weekend and still need some more winter gear, otherwise, I'd be down.

That's a great place for a winter hike & camp. I usually get up there each winter but this year isn't looking good. I will enjoy it through you!

hey Sunshower - please note - I was camping at Franconia last weekend. The bridge over the brook is washed out. The crossing was somewhat tricky for some members of our group, especially those who had a pulk.

I know where you are talking about. We could help carry pulks across. The water level shouldn't be high it's usually a very shallow stream.

Nice photos. Did you dayhike to Owls Head?

That would not be easy to do as the river was wide open and there is no bridge across.

Instead we skied up to Cedar Brook Trail. Due to the January thaw and lack of snow there were numerous open waterbars to make the skiing less optimal but considering that I didn't even think we would be able to ski it was a nice bonus.

I forgot it's on the other side of the Pemi. Bummer.

I saw online that you can take another trail, from the parking lot I believe, that goes on the other side of the pemi.
If u guys still wanted to get out the spot in deerfield is open tomorrow.

actually it could make for a nice trip if you had two cars. once you get to tthe franconia brook campsite and you're ready to continue just keep going on that same trail, it goes past a gate then it keeps slowly rising until it meets with Cedar brook trail to the right. Continuing will eventually get you to the Kanc by the trailhead to the Hancocks.

I'm skiing the Ethan Allen trail tomorrow from the AT Trailhead to the Zealand Parking lot. I should be starting at around 7:15-7:30AM.

ok that makes more sense! i saw that it leads to the Hancocks but couldn't understand its relation to Lincoln Woods trailhead.

We've camped at Franconia 4 or 5 times just not in Winter with snow and ice. There is an embankment about 1/3 way in that was washed out and I didn't even consider it when planning this trip. You have to go down a steep part and cross a shallow river and then back up the other side. It would be tough if icy or with dogs on leash.
