Bug Net and hammock together

Has anyone tried rigging up the ENO bug net and a single together so that both can be hung more quickly? Hanging the hammock then threading it through the bugnet or the bugnet first the threading the hammock can be aggrevating when you need to get it up in a hurry. That and the bugnet hanging down so low to the ground has been what has had me considereing a Hennessy for any other style that has the bugnet attached.

I have made some mods to my ENO that you might want to consider. My ENO has a structural ridge line (SRL) and decender rings. Slide the bug net on and add a second ridge line from one set of rings the the other above the SRL (I use mini biners to clip onto the rings) to support the bug net. I also cut approx 14" off the bottom of the bug net and just let it hang...so far no bugs yet. I was going to remove the zipper but its handy for putting things in and out of the hammock. I then stuff the whole thing into a stuff sack.

Yes it can. I now leave my ENO Double inside the bugnet (with the bugnet wrapped around the hammock) and stuff it all into a stuff sack. I cut a hole in the bottom of the stuff sack so I can clip one end to one slapstrap, then walk the rest out to clip onto the other slapstrap. I need to find a stuff sack with two open ends though. My ghetto rigging isn't too pretty. I left the bag attached to the hammock (I like storing things overnight in it) but I did cut the bag off of the bugnet since I never used it. I personally like that the bugnet extends below the hammock, I will usually toss any extra clothes I have down there- within easy reach if I get cold and need to add a layer.

threading the hammock is a bit of a pain so what i do is when I take the bug net off and it's all gathered one one end of the hammock, I take a loop of line (or a hair tie) and pass it thru the bug net, then clip it with a carabiner . this holds both open ends of the bug net together so the next time I have to put the bugnet on, which is often, it slips straight on with out having to fish and find the two ends.

I was also thinking about leaving the the bugnet and hammock together when I find a nice stuff sack, and then cutting off that bugnet bag which only drags on the ground.

btw, I stopped using those slapstraps almost right away after I discovered cinchbuckle straps that mule had made. as far as I know he was the only one making them? (and I'll need two more sets soon ......)

and for times when I have to go to the ground, I'm gonna put a waterproof ground cloth on the bottom of my bug net after slitting the bottom of the bug net to make it a bit bigger so my pad (and me) can fit and sewing up the ground cloth into a bathtub flooring. I just had not found the material to do this with yet ......

this is close but not there yet, but you can see where a waterproof bathtub floor is just waiting to happen here. also, when in hammock mode, I can let the floor drag on the ground and I can put in my boots and whatever else to stay dry and bug free

Ditching the attached bag for the bugnet is definitely a good move, I never used it anyway (it's outside the bugnet, so nothing I put in there is any more accesible than if I clipped a stuff sack to the hammock suspension). I dug up an old sleeping bag stuff sack (to be used as a bishop bag) that is larger than my others; this has allowed me to keep my underquilt attached when I stuff the whole mess. I'm also doing what spidennis does with his bugnet except instead of it just draping down off of one end, if I'm not using it I can stuff it in the bishop bag that I've left at one end of the suspension. Does that make sense?

Well it's up at one end. So to convert from non-bugnet to bugnet mode, I'll have to walk the bugnet out of the stuff sack at the foot of the hammock up the the head of the hammock. I will have to unclip the head of the hammock and thread it through the one end of the bugnet. I haven't figured any other way of doing it. I could just leave the hammock inside the bugnet- that's what I have been doing. But I like being able to quickly set the hammock up and lounge in it without hiding under the net. And when it gets dark and I'm set for bed it's not too hard to unclip the one end and thread it through. If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open to them.

capt, this is how I use it sometimes. though I can't have anything in the hammock such as my pad or sleeping bag when I go to bugnet time until after I slip the bugnet on completely. setup like it is it's for daytime lounging, then I switch to night time and full bug mode using the bug net.

note that I got both lines to the biner so it only takes attaching the biner to the cinch buckle on the straps and it's in place.

I use a trucker's hitch near the zipper of the bug net so I can easily adjust the tension on the bug net while I'm sitting and putting full weight on the hammock. usually I don't even have to adjust this as it's oh so close each and every time I hang.

yup, that stuff bag is totally useless down there. but I do keep my boots down there so they are bug free. after I sew in my bathtub floor it'll be waterproof too!

That looks like it would work out well. Until it gets alot warmer I leave the UQ attached so I can't do what you did. The opening at the ends of the bugnet aren't big enough for the hammock and quilt. So for now I do have to unclip one end of the hammock and feed it through the bugnet from the zipper opening. Not a huge deal, and when I ditch the UQ I'll set it up like you have.

Not an Eno, but a DIY Speer, and not an Eno bugnet, but a DIY equivalent...

I pack the whole shebang into a "Black Bishop Sack". Clip the suspension around the tree on one end, feed the hammock and bug net out of the big end, clip the suspension on the other end, relax, sleep, dream...

In the morning, unclip 1, stuff, unclip 2, shove it into your pack, hike, ...

BB sack = stuff sack with a big enough hole on the closed end for your suspension to poke through. Leave the sack hanging from your suspension on one end, under the tarp, to use as a holder for miscellaneous stuff you don't want to put on the ground.

nope, not done yet. I want to get some samples of materials and it won't be til july until I can have a family member do some sewing for me. I can slit the bottom of the bug net, pin the floor into place, but need a machine to finish off the job. the problem though lies in the fact that I'll be using my hammock every day for two months starting in july ...... like I did last year. so this means only a few hours of down time before I set up camp again!

I had an idea for adding a second zipper to the bug net. It would replace either the left or right seam of the bugnet. This would make it easier to slide the net over, actually under, the hammock without having to remove every thing out of the hammock--aka--foam pads, underquilts, pea pods or what every. The same type of zipper that is used on the guardian bugnet would work for the modification. I'll post pics when I get the mod done.
