View Full Version : Software upgrade coming this week/end
I will be upgrading the forum software this week and weekend. I am not sure which day I will be doing it but I am shooting for Friday night.
Just a heads up, you will experience no connectivity and errors when coming to the web site when this upgrade is in process.

Thanks Rick for the heads up.
Rick,
How long will the upgrade take? do you know when we will be back up?
Not rushing you, just trying to get an idea of the time frame if you know it
Thanks
I'm glad you're doing it this weekend because I will be out in the woods, off the grid anyway. Otherwise, I would be under my bed, having a nervous breakdown for fear of not being able to connect!

Thanks for the info, I guess I better figure out what to do with my evening.
Right now I am planning on doing it Friday night at 10 pm Eastern time. If all goes well, it should be less then an hour before the forums are back online.
We all hope everything goes well. Good luck

Thanks for the heads up and for doing the upgrade/maintenance to start with. Appreciate it.
Thanks for your time working on it tonight!
Maybe I'll check the "Convince me to hammock" thread on WB.
Guess I'll go hang in the back 40 then. Or watch more Shug videos... :D
Like others, thanks for the time and effort you and all the mods put in. Gonna be some of the longest hours of my life, sorta like my wedding, chin up and things will get better once it is done. Or so they say.
Here's a little heads up. The top navigation bar that everyone is use to using on these forums is going to change a bit. There is nothing I can do to keep it the same. I have tried to simplify it as best I could. Those of you that use the WhiteBlaze web site will know what I am talking about. This is the way the navigation bar is going to look now. I have also included an attachment showing the new look.
Let me explain a little about the new navbar tabs. First it was not my choice to change the navigation bar. This software upgrade is over five years overdue. Progress has to move forward. The upgrade will also get rid of a lot of possible potential spots where we could get hacked and should make the Moderators and Admins lives a lot easier. I think once you give it a change and learn your way around it will come natural to you also.
With the upgrade a lot of things have been categorized under different tabs now. For example the Membership list not falls under the FORUMS tab and under COMMUNITY. I know that this is going to be awkward at first and some will complain about this and a few other things that use to be easily accessible in the old navigation bar.
I could add a crap load of tabs to make all these show up but there are a few downfalls to this. Those using smart phones and the browsers on their smart phones, will not be able to fit all the tabs on their screen. This would also be a problem with users that have their resolution set low on their desktops or laptops. To make it easy for now I have added the ODDS & ENDS tab with a drop down menu with what I thought would be a lot of the things that you would want quick access to.
This is just a heads up. Please give the software a good time to try and get yourself use to it.
Thank you
Thanks for keeping us in the know and spending your time for us.

Oh god, oh god, this is it people! Five minutes before we are all lost... for an hour.
Quick, somebody, anybody, what induces an hour long coma, so I don't have to live in a world without HF?!

Tequila? American Honey?
YES!!! Quick, does anyone have any American Tequila!? :scared:
As someone that has been building/designing sites since 1994, I can appreciate the amount of work you are doing here.
I have never been one to leave well enough alone, however. Since I can't say I'm a big fan of the Safety Orange background, and there are no theme options in the account settings, if anyone else wants to change this, I'll share what I do (this is only for Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari):
1. get the Stylish extension for Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylish/fjnbnpbmkenffdnngjfgmeleoegfcffe?hl=en
or Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/
or Safari http://sobolev.us/stylish/
2. create a new style. Name it whatever you want
3. input this or whatever color you want in the code text area:
html {background: Black !important;}
4. set the "applies to" option to be "URLs on the domain"
5. the domain is "hammockforums.net"

Tapatalk issues have been addressed now.
I went into the woods early friday and when i got out on sunday and got reception on my phone and was able to get on the forum i was like " Uhh, hold on a minute. The forum changed and so did my post count". Did this happen to anyone else? Thanks for the time spent on the upgrade though. Seems to be a little bit more cell phone friendly
...Did this happen to anyone else?...
Yes. It has been looked at and I think it has been corrected as best as can be.
Thanks for the time, effort and, I am sure, aggravation, that went into the upgrade. It's taking a little getting used to some of the new stuff but it is only trivial... Great Job!
