I recently had a chance to try out my travel sock extenders on my 11 foot gathered end and they don't work, at least not when my underquilt is installed. When i get the zipper closed my underquilt is compresses so much that it doesn't retain any warmth. I had pretty much the same result when i tried my inflatable pad installed as well. When i tried it with out the underquilt or pad installed the zipper was still very tough to get closed. When i did get it closed i was right on top of the sock.

I'm using a 11 foot Simply Light with a 83% ridgeline.

If you plan on using this without any bottom insulation i guess it might work ok, but you can forget about any kind room for insulation :scared:

pics would help.

I would also confirm all measurements, i.e. hammock and ridgeline length, etc., just to be sure the assumptions are correct. Also, what is the girth of your sock/net?

Standard Warbonnet wind sock and Simply Light 11 foot tree runner. Confirmed ridge already. Can't really get a picture as I have to be in the hammock to recreate the issue.

so the distance between hammock body and ridgeline is to big?

I have a fixed zing it ridge on it now, but I tried an adjustable at shorter and longer with different results. When it was set longer the hammock was too long and the extenders wouldn't fit due to the extra length. With the ridge set shorter I couldn't close the zipper at all because the sag was too low.

Can you please tell me in inches what your ridge is? I'm puzzled why you dont have any room under the hammock. Is it possible you have your hammock stretched out too tight with not enough sag?
If you can take a picture that will help too.

Could the hammock be one of Jared's 12 footers? Grabbing at straws here :)

Not sure if it makes a difference, but is a cat cut streamliner 11 foot with 109 inch ridge. I have the typical flex in the ridge when I'm sitting in it.

I would think that the hammock being stretched too much would help with this situation.

Let me rephrase my question, I meant if the hammock is stretched too long it will make the hammock longer than the sock. I'm just trying to run through different scenarios here to get a visual.
May I ask if you are a heavy person and if the hammock fabric stretches a lot when you get in it? If so you may have to tweak your ridge line length.
I'm 115 lbs and 5'2" and I found my sweet spot with my ridge line at 104" fixed. But a buddy of mine that is 300 lbs and 6'5" needed his at 114".

I'm using a 1.9 oz double layer and I'm 5'10" and 200 pounds. I really couldn't imagine too much fabric stretch. My hammock is most comfy where the ridge is and I've tried +/- about 7"s and nothing seems to help.

Well I cant figure what's wrong. Back in the winter I used a 20* Incubator with a 50 degree Pea Pod over that with my sock and I could still slip my hand down and feel a little space between the insulation and the sock. Can you take a pic with you not in the hammock so we may see your setup? There may be a clue there.

Does the sock lay on the hammock ridge line? If the attachment point is higher than the hammock ridge line it can be pulled up losing room on the bottom.

It is on the ridge, not higher.

I'll try to get a picture in the next few days.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but does the hammock / sock / UQ combo work without the extenders?

No. Without the extenders the omni tape on the sock comes undone as soon as you get in.

Based on it having a 109 inch ridgeline, and at 83%, it would be a 12 foot hammock.

(Ridgeline / % Ridgeline) = Hammock length
(108/.83 = 131)

An 11' hammock would have a ridgeline of around 100" if it was at 83%.

Somebody can check my math.

With a 11' hammock you should have 8-10" of hammock sticking out of each end of the sock.
You should not be able to close the velcro at all.

Here is a picture of a WB sock and WL 11' Snipe. Note the black material sticking out the ends of the sock?

12" x 11' = 132" x .83 = 109.5...right? Warbonnet standard black bird is 10 foot with a 101 inch ridge right?

You are right on the math
Thanks for the correction.

The only thing I can think of is that since the simply lights are cat cut, maybe jared's hammocks are 11 feet plus 3"s on each end. Could that be my problem? Is anyone else using the extenders with a simply light steam liner?

barchetta

I spoke with Jared at SLD and he says that his streamliner 11 ft is 132 inches at the longest point. The cat cut comes in (less material) towards the outside edges of the hammock. I really don't what else to do.

I would recommend physically re-measuring everything, because i have not heard of anyone else who was using the LDC extenders with the Travel sock and an 11 footer have problems with underquilt compression, not saying it's not possible, but it seems strange. My guess is the hammock body is longer somehow or the ridgeline is shorter somehow than what you think resulting in more distance between your butt and the RL....that's just a guess though.

Brandon,

I'll measure everything that i can. what is the dimension of your sock from top to bottom supposed to be? I'll verify that as well.

Thanks
John

Should be about 49" top to bottom in center
