Micro Carabiner Group Buy

I am looking to order some more microwire gated binners for myself. This is one of those the more youorder the lower the cost per binner deals. I figure that I would letthis run for a couple of weeks to give everyone a chance to see itand get their orders in. These are not for hammock suspension but forthings like tarp suspension, UQ's, tie out lines ect.

Note..... I have bought from thesefolks before....
http://www.lazerdesigns.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=CCmcrd&Affiliate=shopping

From the picture on their web site, other big names have also...see picture with binners with Z Packs
name. Also included are pictures ofones I have ordered in the past.

I plan to order about 100+ for myselfand will have "Neusiok Trail" as shown in picture engravedon all binners. Once I got them I would break them down and mailthem out. Depending on how many you order I can either ship them in apadded mailer or small box. I estimate shipping cost would run $5.00or less depending on how may you order. I would ship via the USP.

Link to spreadsheet with people andnumber of binners to be ordered to give us an idea of how many arebeing ordered. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-FGtPyd-X5xz7cu4-NwbUYPPbQ4ynmg98gxrboj3hmo/edit?usp=sharing

I will update the spreadsheet when wehit the new price points.

This group buy will be limited tofellow hangers in the USA. Sorry but I am not set up to shipinternationally.

Price breakdown: (plus s&h)
1-11 $12.99 each
12-23 $2.50 each
24-49 $1.95 each
50-149 $1.10 each ....as I plan toorder about 100 the most it would cost would be $1.10 each + S&H
150-249 $0.99 each
250-499 $0.85 each
500-999 $0.75 each
1000-1999 $0.72 each
2000+ $0.71 each

Colors:
Assorted or
Blue....Red....Green....Purple....Black....Orange

Recommend staying away from Black asthey hard to find when you drop them

If you ( the group) don't care aboutcolor then I can just order assorted colors and try and divide theorder as equally as possible by colors. If there is a preference forjust a couple of colors I can contact the supplier and see if theywill break down the order for the desired colors. I will also post apoll to try and get an idea of desired colors

Info from supplier:
Our smallest carabiner key clip, theMicro-D is a flat sided small carabiner clip. Perfect for a shortmessage or name! The strong wire gate makes this a winner forgiveaways and adding on to a product!
These small carabiner clips are superlight weight (only one tenth of an ounce!) and with their strong wiregate, very durable. Great for ultralight backpackers or where a smallcarabiner clip is what is needed. Great for key chains, since it ishardly noticeable until you need it!

Length 1 5/8", Width 1",Thickness 1/8"
Material: Anodized Aluminum

Payment instructions.

Once we get a group commitment to thenumber of binners to order, I will place the order. Once I get thebinners in I will prep them for shipping and let you know finalcosts.

Once your bill is calculated pleasesend payment via Paypal at gswheat (at) gmail. In the comments box, please include your order information; Colors, Number Ordered, ANDYOUR HF USER NAME. Very important I know who is who and without yourHF name, I won't know who is paying for who's order. If you aregoing to order a large batch like 50+ then I will ask for the cost ofthe binners up front and then send another bill for the shippingcost.

Estimated production time 1-2 weeks orless. It will probably take another week to get to me and thenanother week to distribute. So please be patient!!! If you have ANYquestions about your order or making payment, please get a hold of meprior to making the payment so we get try and get it right the firsttime.

At this point, if you want to back outits up to you to find someone to take your share. So if you’resitting on the sidelines banging your head that you missed out, postyour interest.

I prefer payment be made using the"goods and services" option. This allows me to printpostage here at home. Choosing the "gift" option keepspaypal from giving me your address. The fees paypal takes from apayment for "goods and services" will be factored into theprice. If you choose the "gift" option, you will simply begiving me the 2.9% which I will be happy to take but I believe isagainst HF rules.

This is my first time coordinating agroup buy so if I have missed something please let me know viaposting or PM'ing me.

Group Buy HF Rules................
1. Group buy prices must be the actualcost of the item or items being offered.

That a misprint right? Maybe $2.99 each?

I have nothing to do with the group buy but the way I read it, the "price list" is from the "wholesaler's" site and the group buy total count is what will determine the cost from that list. gunner76 is ordering 100 himself so the 100 ct price break is where you are starting from....something like $1.10 + S&H. If higher price breaks are hit, the cost would be lower.

Ok... I've never participated in a group buy before.. but I want to clarify, If I bought, say 20 of them, At a max, I'd owe you 22.00+ S&H? I've seriously wanted to buy some from the HF store before.. if they weren't green.

Yes, that's correct, but the wholesaler site appears to have bad info, no way are 10 units $129 if 11 units are $27, which is the way it reads.

Regarding the group sale, are we free to have the micro-biners engraved with our own label? Or is this for blank micro-biners only?
Would the cost be the same, given that you are already getting some engraved?

gunner76
06-05-2014, 17:47
There are ordering points (which I listed) at which the price drops when you hit certain numbers. So if we get enough orders to get at least 150..the price drops to 0.99 cents each....250 binners then the price drops to 0.85 cents each.

are we free to have the micro-biners engraved with our own label?

The company will only do one engraving per batch

If I bought, say 20 of them, At a max, I'd owe you 22.00+ S&H?

Correct

no way are 10 units $129 if 11 units are $27, which is the way it reads.

The company wants you to order large numbers due to set up cost to engrave.

Silly questions but what are these for? Tarp ridgelines? I looked at the specs but I didn't see anything about weight rating, did I miss it? These look better than the dollar biners that you get in the checkout line at the old hardware store, but it is a little hard to tell. please help.

gunner76
06-06-2014, 10:08
Shows me as anonymous

I will figure it out.

Silly questions but what are these for

Not a silly question...use them for tarp suspension, with stake tie out lines. UQ suspensions, hanging stuff from pack ect. These are not to be used for suspending a hammock. These weight about 1/10 of an ounce. The ones at the hardware store do not have a wire gate and are a little harder to open meaning once the wire gate is closed it is extremely unlikely they will open accidentally which I have had happen with the style like you are talking about.

I'm going to be asking around the bonfire at my kid's birthday party this weekend... a few of the people I hike/camp/hunt/fish with will be there. Going to get my group together before posting in the spreadsheet. Are they the same type Paul sells? http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/accessories.html They seem to be, and the color options are the same. Still looking forward to the answer from the company on the no engraving option.

Just so I know when is the order deadline, and when do you need the $?

Same style. Do not know where he gets his from.

Unless you are ordering 50 or more I will front the $$ and send you the bill.

I plan to let this run for 2 weeks to give everyone who is interested a chance to get their orders in. I will post when the last day is to order is but right now I am looking around the 21st of June being the last day.

Got response back from manufacture already as follows.

We are glad to help you with your group buy.

To answer your questions,

1. Can we place one order and get some of the binners engraved and some plain ?
Yes, you could order some engraved and some blank. They would be same price (volume discounted price)

2 Can we specify the break down and number of colors of engrave and plain binners. ?
Yes, you can. Just mention the color break down when adding the item to your cart or placing your order. We prefer color breaks at qtys of 50, but you can do whatever you need.

3. Can we still get discounted price based on the total number of binners ordered ?
Yes, just add them all to your basket at once, and then in the Special Notes, or when you place your order, mention the color break down and the engraving break down. I’m assuming all engraved with same thing.

I am updating the spreadsheet so you can specify if you want the binners engraved or not engrave. If you do not specify not engraved they you will get the engraved biners.

Once again, I do not plan to place the order until after the 21st of June so everyone has time to decide what they want to do. If we can hit the 500 mark then the price will drop to $0.75 per binner.

06-12-2014, 19:33
If it hits .01 a biner, I may up my purchase amount!

So will I :)

Unfortunately the next price break is at 2,000 binners and then int only drops to 0.71 each.

I would hate to see how many we would have to order to get them at 0.01 each :scared:

I agree that for some, s&h may run more than $5 based on the numbers some folks are ordering. But when you factor in the over savings I think it will be worth it.

Well are you shipping via USPS or UPS? (your OP says USP)

You could very well fit a a crap load of these things in a $5.85 flat rate box from the USPS. And then, all the shipping materials are free

donig
06-12-2014, 20:02
I wonder how many would fit in a small, priority mail flat-rate ($5.80) USPS shipping box (5-3/8" x 8-5/8" x 1-5/8")? I would guess you could ship at least 50 in one, and you get the boxes for free at the post office. Cost for 50 would be $36 biners + $5.80 shipping + $1.51 Paypal fee = $43.31 total - still only 87 cents each delivered. I'm not sure you could do much better, considering you would have to buy shipping supplies if you ship regular mail.

Shipping USPS.

With some orders, I will be able to ship first class. Others may be cheaper to send Priory Mail. At least one person said he will pick his up at the Hunger Hang in October.

I use to have a mail order business (mailing aquatic plants and supplies...Lotus, water lilies ect ) and am very familiar with shipping packages via the Post Office. I have a lot (several hundred) of manila padded mailers and small boxes for those orders that can go first class. For the rest I still have some priority boxes and mailers and I can still order more boxes from the Post Office if needed. I believe I still have an account set up with them for ordering boxes.

I use to ship so much the local post master would come out and help me unload if he wasn't busy. I shut the business down after the wife's shoulders went out and had to be operated on and my back went out enough we could not handle the heavy pots anymore.

Flat rate padded envelope would hold atleast 50 , $5.05 and the envelope is free as well, i put 30 yards of 1.1 ripstop in one i know it will hold alot of these.

Not an important issue but just curious has anyone load tested one of these (from HF store) with known weights? I realize these are "Not load bearing." Considering using to suspend UQ (10#) or possibly light tarp(100# max?). Mostly I've used similar and weaker ones for even lighter duty purposes. Wire latch is much better than most. Ordered 20 regardless.

I use these ( the ones from AHE) for a number of things.. the first being my bear bag, and I've got a large group bag for when it's 10+ of us out hiking.. the Carabiner has held 40+ lbs of consumables easily. I also used one on each end of my tarp RL prior to investing in dutchware. And I also use one on the magnetic release for my net when fishing.. and I can tell you from experience, the connection point on the vest gave out before the carabiner did. These may not be load bearing.. but they beat the crap out of the ones you get for $1 in big box stores.

Like I posted earlier, I am all too familiar with shipping with the Post Office. I would always buy my postage online for the priority packages because I could get a discount.

Local Post Master liked me because I had all my packages ready to go with the correct postage already on it. Might have run into a issue a couple of times a year and it was usually with the flat padded mailers because the USPS has some strange regs on not only the width x length but at the time also how thick was it. A few times when I was in a hurry to get a padded mailer out and and my postage printer was not working, I would take the package in and pay at the counter. I could be charged 3 different price for the same size / weight mailer depending on how the clerk interpreted the regs.

Just checked the spreadsheet and we just under 1,400 biners. I have created a monster.

Don't think the wife will help. One day I called her from work and told her I got a great deal on some fresh shrimp just off a local shrimp boat but she needed to come pick it up now. I'd be interested in knowing how the supplier packs an order of 2000 biners.

Is it one box with 2000 dumped in or are they packed by the gross, 100, dozen???

If there is a unit size from the manufacturer, I'd be open to readjusting my order to get closer to that unit size for ease in final distribution.

Also, if it would help, I'd be willing to pay in advance too.

I'm wondering, and apologies if this was mentioned before, but given the size of the order, perhaps batching the order allowing for different engraving options? If possible, I'd prefer a generic hammocking related engraving such as; "get elevated" or "hanging out" or some other short phrase. (without stepping on HF toes.

Understanding that it would complicate the order but perhaps one alternative graving might be doable? Just wondering.

Obviously I'm still in no matter what.

Thanks hk2001 I'll need to load test one just for my own curiosity someday. I often carry extra climbing carabiners and Soft Shackles on my PFD and in gear bags and other people I camp and paddle with often ask to "borrow" them. At about $4 each in bulk it gets expensive when they are lost or not returned. Even if these little ones only hold 50-100 lbs can always be put in parallel like a Dutch clip.
As a kayak instructor I recommend that people secure their water bottles, cameras, phones in dryboxes, dry bags with snacks etc but am often chasing these items down because no one wants me to be their mommy until their $600 iPhone is lost.

Not sure why that comfused me but now I wonder, do I need to post in this thread what I put on the spread sheet? Or is the spread sheet info all you need? I know some folks had issues with mobile'devises and the spread sheet but seems some posted in here what they ordered. Only adding to my simple minded confusion :). First chance I have had to check on last minute additions today. Just came in from working in the garden and cutting grass this AM. Had to give up cutting grass due to deer flies.

While today is the last day to get you order in I will not be doing any ordering prep ( verifying total number of binners, colors, engraved, not engraved ect until tomorrow morning..so as long as you get you name on the spreadsheet and or numbers wanted posted before tomorrow morning (Sunday). I am OK with it.

Hopefully one is all you need. I have already scheduled an appointment to see if surgery is an option. The shots have lessen the pain but I still have pain.

Did you go with a local or full anesthesia ? I did full anesthesia for the first two and a local for the last ( still had to take a couple of Valium before the local ).
Either way I have been either loopy or groggy after the shots.

Hope it works out ok. Wife's mother was in and out of hospital so much last year it was like she was back in before she even got out. Sad to day she passed away at 90+ years.
My wife and her sister and brothers are trying to sell the house but as it needs lots of work and is on the historic homes list ( built about 1856 ), it will be hard to sell. We stopped by a couple of weeks ago to show it to someone and place does not look the same with all the furniture gone.

I am definitely not in a hurry and not watching this thread very closely so hope I did not miss anything, but please post what the shipping and handling come out to be and specifics on how to send you funds. I don't want to see you out all that cash for any longer than necessary, am to far away to help with sorting and stuffing parcels. Thanks for all your efforts so far. My wife would be furious if I did something like what you are doing. Perhaps next thanksgiving the HF store can do a group buy on these and get the price down again. Or full sized climbing carabiners for rock bottom prices, or Dutch makes 500+ pound Ti carabiner with bulk order to get price down. A $60 pair would not sell well but $30 per pair may sell. Just thinking of my NFL offensive linesmen friends who "want to hang" and are popping Dutch clips, joking.

gunner76
06-28-2014, 08:25
Took longer that I thought to break down the list of biners by color, engraved, not engraved, double, triple checking the numbers ect. Didn't help that I lost a day due to visit to doctors for shots that left me kind of out it all day.

Because of the numbers involved I have prepared an email I will send Sunday night to my POC at the company with the details of the order and once I know he has it I will place the order. Hopefully this will reduce the chance of any mistakes on their end.

Right now the breakdown is as follows:

Engraved with "Neusiok Trail"

Red .... 120
Green .... 150
Blue .... 140
Purple .... 70
Orange .... 85
Black ..... 80

Plain not engraved

Red .... 365
Green .... 345
Blue .... 340
Purple .... 205
Orange .... 460
Black ..... 140

Total of 2,500 binners.

Reviewing the past group buys it appears that there have been at least a couple that were larger in $$$ than this, but nothing I could find matches the number of items
we are ordering.

She can only kill me once, Told her I have enough life insurance to take care of her in case I die but not enough to make it worth her while to kill me

please post what the shipping and handling come out to be and specifics on how to send you funds.

We had about 75 members take part in this group buy and it did grow much larger than I expected. I did stop by the Credit Union Friday to make sure I had enough funds to pay for the order up front. If folks who placed orders do not pay for their order then the wife will be furious and you can learn how she got her nickname the Terminator. Worse case, someone decides they do not want to pay for the binners they requested, them I will first make them available to those who participated in this group buy at same costs for the binners and s&h. If no one who participated in the group buys wants them, I will make them available to any other forum member, same deal.

As I stated in the first post, I will not know what the exact shipping will be for each order until I can package your order and weigh it but I am still guessing it will be somewhere around $ 5 range for most of you. I have several hundred padded mailers left over from a mail order business I use to have, I also have about 50 small boxes and I have some of the small USPS small Priority Mail boxes. I am hoping I can send most of the orders out in the padded mailers as first class mail as this would be least expensive way to ship. Most of the orders were for between 10 and 40 binners.

Once I have your order ready to ship I will notify you via PM with the cost and you can pay by Money Order, Personal Check or PayPal.

For those who ordered 50 or more binners and or offered to pay in advance, I will PM you with cost of the binners in the next few days with payment instructions. I will have to send a second PM for payment instructions for the S&H costs as I will not know what the S&H amounts will be until I package up your order. I have a postage scale and will be using the least expensive cost for shipping each order.

Just hope my label printer hold up.

Just got word back from binner company POC that they have run out of Purple binners. It will at least 2-3 months before they get any more in.

They recommend and I agree that we should substitute Blue for the Purple. If it was just me I would have gone ahead and placed the order but as this is a group buy I wanted to let all of you know what is happening.

Please let me know what you guys want to do so I can get the order placed.
