View Full Version : Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter size question
Hi,
I'm about to buy our first ever hammocks for my son and myself, and after a lot of research, really like the look of the GT Skeeter Beeter Pro. But...many of the reviewers stated that they were 200#+ men (often mid-200s) who liked that the hammock supported their weight & girth. I am 5'10 and 170#, and my son, who is 10, is 4'9 and 70#. Would these hammocks be way too big for us?
Thanks for any help you can give!

I put my 7 year old grandson in one & he loved it. Had to hang it a little higher as he looked like a bowling ball in the bottom. Had trouble finding him the next morning under all the cover.
My wife loves hers she is 5'1" and after we put a ridgeline to get the same sag every time we use some small pockets on the net that I put a pole in over the ridgeline to hold the net open without using the pullouts.

Generally a larger hammock is just more comfortable and you will have more space in the peaks I.e. above head and foot to store small gear bags. An added ridgeline as mentioned above will also help with this search on HF for how others have done this with this GT SB hammock.
Only disadvantage that I can think of to a larger hammock is that it will weight a little bit more if you are backpacking long distance. In that case GT nano 7 ounce with added minimal DIY bugnet might be better. Are you an extreme long distance thur hiker doing 10 -30 miles a day? If not get a comfortable hammock.

Note all will sleep well with a set ridge line, I have slept in all the Parachute nylon hammocks Grand Trunk offers, I have used the supplied suspension system, I now prefer straps with rings,
also we have used a combination of ropes/straps, and chain. I have found out to open the Skeeter Beeter zippers with ease don't have your weight on the zipper side creating pressure on the zippers. the specks are listed below Ultralights not included, note the Dimensions of all. Hope this helps You.
