View Full Version : Hey, who remembers this CS XP UQ Yeti prototype test?

The human furnace known as Cannibal in what I think were the single digits ( maybe 5F?) using his dad's ancient synthetic sleeping bag and testing the original WB "Yeti" Cliashield XP torso length UQ. With no tarp in a frigid snowstorm! Look at how the snow underneath appears to have piled up to just contact the UQ! Look at the snow on the upper edge of the UQ at about left shoulder level! WOW! I remember his dad was worried about him and woke his snug self up!

I still have one of these, and I think it is hands down one of the best UQs ever made! You know how we often have learning curves with UQs? My son used this- with 3 of 4 CS layers installed- on his first ever hammock trip, under a Claytor No Net and JRB tarp, on a trip to the Wind River Mountains. He used a TNF Cat's Meow 20F PG bag as a TQ. I credit this UQ with his being toasty each night- though a total NOOB- with lows in the 20s, wind, rain, sleet, hail and snow. ( I was also snug in a PeaPod)

I just stumbled on that old pic and thought I would share it. I think it is one of the coolest(in more ways than one) pics ever posted to HF.

Yes, but this test took place just down the road from you! I think that initial test was one of- if not the most- severe test any of us has ever put any equipment through. I think he went from his Dad's house in Denver back east to take that UQ with him on a through hike of the AT.
