Hey I'm wondering if anyone has seen a Haven in person or has tried on in a hammock?

It's a backless 700-fill sleeping bag with an enclosed footbox rated for 20°. It's on close out at REI for $169 which is 1/3 less than the JRB Sierra Snivelers that is really like to buy for me and my son. Influencing the decision is an REI giftcard I received over the holidays and the upcoming rebate check making this a very affordable option.
Any thoughts?
I was recently looking at their alpine blanket but this might be better "hammock gear". Interested in if other have used it.
Looks like it would work. Do you have a picture of the front?
My buddy "CampWalker" has one. I love the thing. I want to try one out.

I like it but would not use it. I move around too much (back, side, stomach, side, back, repeat)

Valid point. I flop all over the place as well. Might not be the choice for me either :(
For that matter, what would be wrong with using any lightweight down blanket in a hammock? This might be blasphemy around here. I'm not sure. But what is the difference between a top quilt and any other blanket except potentially material and the enclosed footbox?
Seriously, I'm a newb here, so it's not meant to poke holes in anyone's system... I just don't get it.
CampWalker is a hanger. He says it works well.
Brave...A regular blanket will work fine. The footbox is kind of nice. :)
This system seems to be very similar to Katabatic Quilts other than the fact that the Katabatic quilts don't have a hood.
For me the difference is two-fold...having the footbox as well as the lighter material. Every down blanket I have ever seen is very heavy outer material.Quote:

However, for a back-sleeper who isn't restless, I think it would work. No worries about tucking in the side of a top quilt.
I love my HG top-quilt not just because it is cozy when the temps are low but, it is easy to vent when I get a bit too warm. The Thermarest Haven doesn't seem as versitile.

for a 20* 700fp 2lb (might even be sub 2) SB that you can find on sale for under $150? I'd be willing to just tuck my feet in and use the rest like a quilt and not have to put my head in the other end, just pull it up to my neck. Definitely worth a look for people trying to get a worthy cost per ounce and a steal for it's class.
I've thought a lot about it and I've decided to just buy what I really want (a couple Sierra Snivelers). The only problem is now I'll just have to figure out something else to get with the gift certificate and dividends…

I got my hands on one. I'll do a more formal review after I've had a night or two to test it out. Supposed to be in the mid 30s tonight, so that should be a decent test :)
My next DIY TQ is actually gonna look very similar to this design. I think this will work great in a hammock.
Well...I survived the nigt. The temp read 38 when I got up. I was toasty warm and actually had to vent a bit during the night. (I had my 0* Incubator)
Things I noticed:
Good: I was able to warm up pretty quick once in the bag. I actually like the fact that it hugs around me and I don't need to tuck it in. Just stick your head in and it pretty much tucks itself in. The hood is nice and if I don't want to use it I just tucked it under my head like a pillow. It was good. The bag is pretty light and packs down really nicely. It also has a small loop into the top so you could attatch it to your ridgeline if you were so inclined.
Bad: (and this is a pretty minor thing) When you are all tucked in nice and snug it's a bit tricky reaching out of the hammock (for a water bottle or what not). It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as easy as I'm used to with other quilts. For things on the ridgeline I was able to reach through the hood hole and access things. It was only when I went for my water bottle (on the ground) that I had to "untuck" and then get tucked back in afterwords. Again...not a big deal, just different.
So far I really like this bag. After a few more nights I'll update some information and maybe do a video review or something.
Interesting! Thanks for the report. How does venting it work if you get too hot? That was a concern for me that drive me to pursue another choice.
The hood area has a drawstring that allows you to open it up prett good. I'm actually able to stick my arm up through and above my head if I wanted to. I also found that you don't have to put your head in the hood area. If you want you can put your feet in the box and use it like a regular TQ. It doesn't tuck well like that, but it works if you don't want to trap a lot of heat.
I've just got the alpine one! Rated at 35f. Will be perfectly adequate for summer in the hammock. Has added side baffles so might be extra good for keeping out those draughs. :laugh: as i'm a cold sleeper it will need teaming up with something else for the weather we have here at the moment. Its supposed to be used attached to a pad and has snap fasters around the edges. You can't feel these protruding at all. Handy storage pocket at the neck end. Packs down great snd lofts well. Lovely and soft outer shell. Nice foot box shaping. Not for anyone too large in stature and I recommend getting the longer version for average height. That will give enough down to snuggle around your head. :D

Ya, this would not be a good system for a side sleeper.
I bought one. I like the idea...certainly worth pursuing. No way the Haven will take me to 20*. Laid alongside a HG 20* quilt, there is no comparison. The Haven is not as lofty. Also, the hood could fit better. Finally, reading is inconvenient. Still, I'm pleased, and will continue to play with this concept. I have a center zip Wiggy's bag that will probably get the back modded. More, later.
I took mine to 23* last night, but I did have a silk liner and my fleece sleeves owner my feet, but I was toasty warm and had to vent from time to time. Good test and it's only going to get colder over the next few days. (I think the 20* rating may be a "survival" rating :)
