DAR State Forests (Mass.) Hang

Turkey Day Weekend hang!
If anyone is interested, I have reserved the group campsite at DAR State Forest in Goshen, Mass. from 11/25 thru 11/27 (Friday thru Sunday). According to my resources, the site is perfect for hanging lots of hammocks (thanks imspiritgirl!). I know that this hang is kind of short notice, and most people will probably be spending time with their families, but if you would like to join us, the more the merrier.

I'm in- looking forward to it. And since we can pull right up to the trees and its the day after Thanksgiving my cooler will have way better food than usual.

Would love to join but I only have Saturday night and it's a bit far for one night. Have a great time.

Any idea how cold it will be? I will need to figure out what to use for a TQ as all I have is a fleece one right now that I only used late spring early summer in the Colebrook NH area would like to make it if I knew I could sleep warm enough

I can bring an extra sleeping bag, TQ, and pads to supplement what you have if that would help you out.

The long range forecast says that the temps will be in the upper 30's in the daytime and upper 20's at nighttime. As we all know, that could change at any point... :)

Raff watch out was up there not too long ago and there is an enormous resident porcupine.watch ur shoes at nite I was gonna do a solo Thursday n Fri maybe ill come up plus the trout fishing there is great

Thanks for the advice! I am not too worried though, my dog will chase away any critters that come close. But I will spread the word. I would hate for him to get into it with a porcupine, that could end up messy.:scared:

It's supposed to be high forties low bout freezing on Fri, a little warmer on Sat.

Working out logistics now ..... is the single site area closed for the season?

I believe so. I think that is what their website said, but I can't remember all of the details. When I called all they said was that the group site was available for reservation, so I reserved it. ;)

I won't know for sure if I can make this hang until Wednesday. I do have some questions. Do we know what park facilities will be available to us? Raiffnuke if I can make it will the offer to use a sleeping bag or TQ still be available to me? I really want to make this hang but weather may make it tough for me as snow and ice clean up is part of my job. My boss will let me know Wednesday based on the weather we may get up here if I can leave town for the weekend.

I was up there two weeks ago. The group site is all that's open (its on the other side of the mt at the bottom of the hill). This is primitive camping. There's a decent on site compost toilet. The water is at ranger hq.

Yes, if you can make it, I will have some extra insulation that you can borrow to suppliment what you have.

Almost time to start hanging! :)

I'd love to make it, but will be out of town with the family living out the script of 'National Lampoon's Thansgiving Vacation'.

Looking forward to a TR and pics of this spot. Not too many camping spots open in the winter in Mass.

How was dar sorry I couldn't make it out my 2yr old daughter was not having it LOL any reports or stories. How were the facilities

The DAR group campsite was pretty nice. Very large and many options to hang. The outhouse was very nice (for what it was ;)) everything was clean and tidy. Definetely a place to look at for future hangs!

I will post pictures and a trip report soon.

I was scout camping this past weekend, so couldn't attend. I'll be checking back in to see about future hangs in the New England area. I really like camping / hiking out in western Mass, NH, etc., so if someone else plans another hang up here, keep me posted.

PS if there really is a NEHHA, put me down as a member ;)
