FatDaddy from Cheeseland
I have been involved in Boy Scouts a long time, and enjoy being outdoors showing young men the difference between independence and the soft glow of video games. About three years ago, I was on a camporee and complained about a sore back after sleeping on my pad. One fellow geezer said simply "Hammocks" I had one in my yard...but camping. I checked out his rig and was sold.
I ran to gander Mountain for a gathered end piece of canvas, threw a 12' plastic tarp over it and realized my backpacking tent was 5 pounds and this thing was saving me a little weight.
My good buddy RBDodger is a WBBB guy and I call him the "gadget guy" he has all sorts of stuff. Well now my youngest and last boy scout is in the troop and doing fundraisers so he can get his first blackbird.
I enjoy reading the posts, and watching the Youtube videos. I added some photos of my youngest boy and his patrol in the Sylvania Forest last weekend in Michigan. A couple of the dads slept in a tent and by the end of the weekend, were complaining about sore backs...i just said "hammocks"...:)

A warm welcome from a SM in sunny Florida! Though I never had back problems, I did find the ground too had to be comfortable. Our troop is headed out tomorrow with Webelos from 3 packs, and I will be in the hammock again. This time I have some new gear to try out: new Burrow and seeking the lower limits on a spring/summer KAQ.
Again, welcome to the madness. Do like your signature. I have a collection of BP quotes, and use them on every possible occasion.
