Live from the Catskills

I have neither been on HF much lately nor have I hung in a while. I really needed to get out so a neighbor and I took our daughters for a little dad and daughter time. The girls - Kurd and Rat - did really well on the hike despite moaning "are we there yet?" and "how much farther?". Z (Rat's dad) and I humped way too much food for the four of us and the heavens opened up about 2 hours ago. Kurd and Rat are tent-bound while Z and I are lounging in hammocks. Z is using my WBBB and immediately commented on its comfort. He's Usig my incubator and a sleeping bag and my Superfly. I'm in my DIY 1.1 nylon with dynaglide whoopies that Lazy River Road along with my Te-Wa UQ, Burrow and my MacCat Standard in Spinn. We're all dry but we'll see how the night goes.

Where in the Catskills are you guys? I've been up there a couple of times with my daughters this summer and have really enjoyed it.

Thanks 2Q, the saddle is feeling good. I used a set of the Grizz Beaks you made for me and they worked perfectly.

Trail head. We were headed to Dutcher Notch but knew with two 12 year-old girls in tow, we weren't going that far. We did however manage to go about 3.5 miles in and they performed like champs.

Finally under way with Kurd, Rat and Z bringing up the rear. Z's pack must have weight close to 55 pounds. He's as strong as an ox and didn't mind carrying almost 15 pounds of water. Yes, you read that correctly, 15 pounds of water.

Time for lunch on the trail. If you look closely you can see how huge Z's pack is. On the right you can barely make out my Aarn Mountain Magic 55 which they no longer make. Carried way too much stuff like a dream.

The rain came steady and then heavy and my phone died. The next morning I had a quick chance to snap of pic of the hammock setup and then my phone died for good.

In the foreground is my MacCat Standard in Spinn with Spinn Grizz Beaks (thanks 2QZQ) and my Superfly which Z used in the background.

I had fun taking my daughter and her friend hammock camping last month. They didn't have to hike in, so they complained less. It is an experience I would recommend to anyone.

We typically head to the Colgate lake trail. Easy to get to, lots of good scenery, plenty of water and a lot of options to camp.

Good to see trips close to home! Love the Catskills...spent my formative years with the fam at friar tuck inn...
