Impromptu weekend at Angeles National Forest

Had a day off last Friday and decided to spend some time in the morning at our local park to test out the hammocks I recently made (one for myself and my son - daughter already had one).

After an hour or so, the kids wanted to just go somewhere and just camp for the weekend. So off we go :)

An hour or so drive we arrive at a campground in the ANF area.

Overall had a wonderful weekend just hangin' out with my family and enjoying the surroundings. Even saw a deer that evening walking past our tent and just looking around - the kids got a kick out that for sure.

This was my first time sleeping in the hammock and it was a beautiful thing to sleep thru the night and not have backpain in the morning. My only complaint is that I didn't have a tarp over me because early Sunday evening, we were greeted by a surprise shower and I had to take down my hammock at 5AM...and I didn't really want to get up.

Thanks everyone, we really had a great time and the kids always enjoy camping.

@JaxHiker - Wow didn't know that happened over the weekend. We weren't that far from the Bridge to Nowhere trailhead. It is a particularly rough 9 mile trail to the bridge itself - it involves many water crossings and tons of rock navigating.

The bridge to nowhere trail is a great trail. Use to take some rope and harness and repel over the side of that bridge. I was just a dumb kid at the time. I miss That trail.

Looks great Mangus - a whole family affair! I was out in the Idyllwild area on Friday hanging with my nephew just a couple of mountain ranges away. Looks like everyone enjoyed themselves, and how cool that the kids are developing a relationship with the forest at such a young age.

That must've been fun. The bridge I think is privately owned by guys that run a bungee jumping outfit right on the bridge.

I've been blessed to have kids who enjoy the outdoors. I just wished that they can fully immerse themselves with what's around them...they still need their electronics to pass the time :lol:.

I was actually surprised that it was their idea to go and not mine. I typically have to convince them to go camping with me.:laugh:
